Ukraine ready to discuss neutral status - Zelensky

Zelensky considers neutrality: Ukraine would be prepared to discuss adopting neutral status, its President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. In an interview with Russian media he says such a status would have to be guaranteed by third parties and put to a referendum. One of Russia's President Vladimir Putin's demands has been that Ukraine renounces its intention to join Nato.

That was Russia's request at the outset.
 
This is game playing, Ukraine is nowhere near ready to kneel. I saw a report that the majority of Ukrainians think that they will win the war with-in weeks.

The Ukrainian border with the NATO countries is extremely long- but it has to be secured if the US suggestion of a guerilla war with Zelensky heading a government in exile is to be combated. That would be a demanding task so I wouldn't worry about any further expansions. You're free to do so, of course. I'm just a media-dependent observer too. My guess is that the Russians will take Odesa, land-lock Ukraine and then bomb the rest of the country to the negotiating table along with anything else that attempts to cross over from NATO states. Biden has trashed any immediate peace initiatives with his fool mouth.

by now you get the idea that Ukraine with NATO weapons is a tough enough nut to crack for Russia
It would be suicide for Russia to go into any NATO country

No, Russia is being very careful generally about not taking civilian lives, with a few notable exceptions which likely resulted from the military not following orders. China has clearly insisted upon this, plus it is in Russia interest. Now likely many will die of lack of food and medicine, but that is a different kettle of fish.

The Russians wouldn't have to secure the borders with many troops. They could simply observe movements by satellite and deter any incursions by remote. We won't be safe though until NATO gives up any ideas of getting in the way.

Putin is already paranoid enough -now he has nothing to lose by dragging out the war

Stage 1 of 'de-coupling' from Russia is complete. Ukraine will hate Russians for generations.
Stage 2 will be nimble guerrilla warfare using latest Drones available to take on Russian ground offensive. (I expect to see more 'ship casualties')

Securing borders is an alien concept to DEMOCRATS.
