Ukraine Invasion Unleashes End Timers: “Fasten Your Seat Belts” The Rapture Index Advises
According to the Rapture Index, “Fasten Your Seat Belts,” we are heading towards End Times territory.
As I reported a few days ago, Pat Robertson, the now retired televangelist, went back to his television studios, and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “compelled by God” in his decision to invade Ukraine. Is Robertson still hopeful he’ll be alive to witness end-times battles in Israel? “I think you can say, well, Putin’s out of his mind. Yes, maybe so. But at the same time, he’s being compelled by God. He went into the Ukraine, but that wasn’t his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately.”
Robertson wasn’t alone with his End Times calculations. Rolling Stone’s Alex Morris reported that “after Russia started dropping missiles on Ukraine, pastor Greg Laurie took to Facebook with a message for his flock. … Laurie argued that the war could be viewed as something else entirely: a sign of the second coming of Christ. ‘Is there any prophetic significance to what is happening in Ukraine right now?’ the heading of the post posed. ‘The answer is…Yes!’”
Seeing the End Times in specific events is a well-aged activity among Christian preachers. “One of the beauties of end times theology is that it’s protean,” says Randall Balmer, a professor of American religion at Dartmouth College. “That is, it can be shaped and shifted to comply with particular circumstances, and it allows those who subscribe to it to claim to have a command of history, that they know how it’s all going to come out eventually.”
