I have searched, but can't find the exact statement. All apologies. I thought I remembered a discussion on the eve of the invasion, but since I can't find it, I'll concede the benefit of the doubt and take you at your word.

I was saying - in essence - that I thought Putin would invade the Donbas.
But not Ukraine proper.
But I also said 'we will see'.


There was another post I made, about 12-14 days before the invasion, where I said - matter of factly - that I didn't think Russia would invade.

So, you are correct in that one point about 2 weeks before Russia invaded, I said I didn't think that they would invade.
(BTW - I also said that if they did, they would have a VERY, hard time with Ukraine. And that Russia was not the same military they were during the Cold War)
However, as Biden had released NO serious intel to back up his claims.
I had no hard information to go on.
I included a link of many experts in the field who thought as I did a few weeks before the invasion.

But you were not correct about me saying so the day before they invaded.

And even if I had, I do not think it is cool to try and condemn someone for one thing (unrelated) that they guessed about 6 months ago.
And try and use that to condemn everything they ever say again to sidetrack a different discussion.

My problem with it was that I thought you were making too much of it.
Yes, Trump wanted to be a dictator.
Yes, he would probably do whatever it took to stay in power.
But, even when he tried it - it failed miserably.
He made a fool of himself.
The system worked.

I get it, in terms of your reaction to my thread. I actually hope I am being paranoid. I was alarmed by how close some things seemed to get in 2020, with what seemed like a few gatekeepers preventing something that would have genuinely shocked most Americans (like Germans were shocked nearly 100 years ago). But your faith in our Constitution is certainly not unwarranted. It hasn't let us down yet, at least in a big way. The founders were smart, and thought of just about everything. It's actually pretty remarkable when I think about how much foresight they had, and how the laws they created are so strong through so many changing circumstances.

And as for the Ukraine, I definitely misremembered that. Should have tried looking it up before I stated that. But agreed - not a cool look either way.

But like I said - all good. I respect the points you were making in retrospect, and that's really the point of the board. I decided not to remove my account, but I am going to take a break for awhile (a few reasons for that, not just that thread). All the best.

Tensions at the Russia-Ukraine border have been ongoing, with several Western nations repeatedly predicting a huge war. Ukraine has chided those nations for causing a panic.

Predictions of such a conflict go back years, and while previous Ukraine officials had similar pessimism about it, more recently officials see a lot more chance for diplomacy.

President Biden again predicted a Russian invasion Friday, noting a Russian offer to talk later this month and suggesting there’d be no point if invasion happens first. Ukraine’s own assessment is clearly far afield of America’s.

1.65 million Ukranian soldiers died fighting the Nazis, in addition to the five million Ukrainian citizens who died during the Nazi occupation.
