U.S. sets record with more than 2 million encounters at Mexico border

American border officials have had over 2 million encounters with migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border so far this fiscal year — setting a new record after sustained surges in migration, according to the latest Customs and Border Protection data.

Why it matters: The large numbers of migrants at the southern border continues to be a logistical, humanitarian and political challenge for the Biden administration. Republicans have pounced on the issue, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently flying migrants and asylum seekers to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

By the numbers: In 2020, the pandemic slowed traffic at the border. Border officials took migrants into custody roughly 460,000 times that fiscal year. That number jumped to 1.7 million in fiscal year 2021. With one month left in fiscal year 2022, the number has already surpassed 2 million for the first time ever......

That is more than the populations of 14 different states. (individually not cumulatively)

likely at least .4 million across the border not encountered
Maybe .5 million visa overstays...nobody is making any effort to count

in related news, Biden's administration conducted 21,000 hearings on asylum in 2021.....

fewer than 10,000 were granted.....

the government doesn't actually report statistics on that.......but....

what can be gleaned from this fact check is that in 2019 (when the government used to report data) 42% of those who initially entered claiming amnesty never actually formally applied for amnesty after entering......thus they never schedule a hearing for them to attend......

also it appears from this fact check that of the 70-80% of people who are denied amnesty most are denied "in absentia" which means they did not attend the final hearing....

finally it appears from this fact check that there are no statistics available for actual deportations, as opposed to issued orders of deportation.......in other words, there is the additional question of whether Biden actually cares if the "deported" ever leave......

so, when the "fact checker" starts out saying ....
“only about half of them even show up for their court cases” and “only 15% of them qualify” for asylum. But government statistics aren’t that clear-cut.

....it continues going through a long analysis which tells us that the claim was essentially true when statistics were being reported, but now that things are worse we can't be sure its still that good...........

2019? Wasn't the border totally secure under Trumps leadership? Thats just what we have been told over and over again.

We are not speaking of Biden, but the year 2019 when you told us time after time that the border was secure under trumps leadership. Were you ever right about anything?

Flying migrants around the country was not "doing something". Why didn't the Republicans pass immigration reform before the tax cuts? They could have done it. You want to blame Democrats for the border crisis, I know because your mind isn't capable of independent thought. But neither party has ever had the answer, dickhead.

Hand job, you posted dozens of times that the border under Trump was secure. We should be thankful that Mexico never paid for trumps wall, cause what he did build was a disaster and complete waste of money.
