Wordplay.

You enlist (join up with, join, enroll in, sign up for) in a service and take an oath. You're trained to become a fighter. You can choose a career path and the service decides if it's the right path they have the final say-so on what you'll do and where you'll go. Yes, you are being employed and given wages. No, it's not like taking a private-sector job.

Feel free to nitpick over the word "hire." I haven't seen that word on any of their websites, please share it if you have.
 
The problem I think with this type of spending is that it's like canceling your phone, internet, and cable so that you can put that money towards buying and paying for a brand new more expensive car. You're not saving any money and you're not reducing your spending you're just putting more of your money towards one thing. It's great that there is a plan to cut government spending in several different agencies but reallocating that money towards something we already spend the most money on isn't responsible and does not do anything to reduce federal spending or reduce our country's horrible debt. Real constitutional conservatives should be against this type of spending in my opinion. Throwing more money towards the military does not make you a patriot just as maxing out your credit card and then getting a new one so you can keep spending is not a financial plan.
