Libyans erupted in jubilation Thursday from the very first incomplete reports that ousted leader Moammar Gadhafi was dead. A "cacophony of celebration" could be heard in Tripoli as ships and cars blasted their horns and shots were fired into the air, said CNN's Dan Rivers.
"It is very, very loud -- a lot of excitement," Rivers said.
"It's a great moment," said Mahmoud Shammam, information minister for Libya's National Transitional Council. "I've been waiting for this moment for decades, and I'm thanking God that I'm alive to see this moment."
Video footage showed a Tripoli street where people embraced and jumped in joy and crowds ran alongside vehicles. Other rejoicing people were hanging out of car windows and sunroofs and gathered in the beds of pickup trucks. The sound of cheering could be heard, along with a call to prayer. Outside a hotel, staff including chefs wearing their white hats gathered, dancing and waving Libyan flags.
"They're breathing a huge sigh of relief here," Rivers said. Many Libyans were concerned that a free Gadhafi might play a role in destabilizing Libya in the future, he said.
In Sirte -- Gadhafi's hometown and the city where he was discovered -- video showed people gathering in celebration, some riding on the tops of cars waving Libyan flags and shooting guns in the air as horns honked.
One man, dressed in fatigues and carrying a weapon, ran up and kissed a television camera. Others chanted, danced and waved their hands in the air, some flashing the "peace" sign. Many had suspected Gadhafi was hiding in Sirte after revolutionary forces took Tripoli in August. He had not been seen in public in months.

3. Libya is a complex country. Tribal and geographically split ( east , west,south) -
even Tripoli in the far west has factions up agianst the Tunisian border that are hostile to Tripoli.
The best way to look at qaddafi was how was the country under his rule?
Highest standard of living in Africa ( maybe excepting egypt) etc. Oil wealth in the peoples name. high literacy.

To be serious I mostly post anti-Trump articles for my personal amusement in watching how conservatives have thrown away everything they previously held holy to support and defend the deplorable. Everything cons have attacked liberals for has come back to bite them tenfold. Lying, cheating, scamming, assaulting, womanizing, adultery, multiple marriages... it all gets a pass even from evangelicals. It makes me think that Trump supporters have no core principles or a line they wouldn't cross.
This board has many Trump supporters. You must have noticed how they defend him on issues they would never defend in a liberal. What's up with that? You read over and over again the claim that Hillary is power hungry; I see Trump as more power hungry than anyone who ever came before him. He can't handle losing so he'll say anything about anyone no matter how false and outrageous it is when examined.
Years ago I said I wasn't sure Hillary was going to run for office again and got flak over that. Then I voted for Bernie in the primaries and supported him until the nominations were over. So I'm not the rigid Hillary supporter people think I am.
BUT...
It galls me no end to see the endless stream of lies pumped out about Hillary on a daily basis, and so I spend most of the time researching and debunking about 95% of them. Conservatives still don't care, even if every false comment has been parsed and researched and foot-noted up the wazoo. I would do the same had Bernie been our candidate.
I see the difference between Trump and Hillary as dark v. light, angry v. calm, pessimistic v. optimistic. I'm sick of looking at Trump's perpetual sneer and listening to his incoherent raging. If Trump took the word "Hillary" out of his campaign, he would have nothing. He is just that much of an arrogant know-nothing pretending he and he alone will "MAGA."
Btw, I also think it's ironic that for years cons have said "Obama hates America" yet they throw their support to a guy who actually campaigns on the slogan that America isn't great. It looks to me like Trump is the one who really hates America.
You said you supported Bernie in the primary. Did it upset you when he was calling Hillary out for her hawkish foreign policy and her ties to Wall St?

I never liked Hillary's hawkishness, so no. And I never commented on the Wall St. stuff because I never researched her ties or the ties of any candidates or presidents.
