In theory, Carlson will have to buy out his contract. Carlson is either trying to force a negotiation from Fox, or is hoping Fox will just be very generous and not sue.
Why? They have something worth money, when they have lost so much money that it hurts badly. The reasonable business thing to do is get as much money out of this as they can. They could easily demand $100 million.
So Carlson is in trouble for not keeping his mouth shut, and gets fired. You think he can blackmail his former boss and get out of this. First off, he has been talking too much, not listening too much. Second, blackmailing his former boss will make any new boss question whether they want to hire him... Especially after he already cost his old boss lots of money by talking too much.
If you are Carlson, the smartest thing you can do is show you can be a trusted employee.
