Well keep in mind that for political stability government welfare for those poor who are in need is essential. Large numbers of poor who are starving is not in anyones best interest. That's how revelutions begin. What is needed are programs like this which reinforce that government assistance is not a life style or a culture but a temporary helping hand to assist people to bridge difficult times. Programs like this help empower those in poverty to do just exactly that.

I would agree.

Four responses and no one called anyone names, blame the other's political party or flamed anyone.

Wow. Might be a JPP record.

I agree that we need to have safety nets for the truly needy-the problem is that those safety nets have become pacifiers for too many. The abuse in the food stamp program alone points to the fact that government, under the current system, fails to manage such programs well.

An excellent example of using positive reinforcement. It's both proactive and progressive. I like it! :)

You mean "positive reinforcement" as in the positive reinforcement people got by being paid by FII to produce positive results and allow the company to use those results to tout their ideas?

Anyone with enough cash to throw around can get the results they desire easily.

That's where drugs and wreality tv come in. :cof1:

I guess all true Conservatives should refuse any "safety net" help and turn to their families in need, because Righties are so compassionate.

Well you do have a point there. The overwhelming majority I know personally are wellfare mommas and I'm all for booting their irresponsibles asses off the teet. I do have mixed emotions about that though. I don't think just because you got knocked up that the world owes you and your child a livelihood. On the other hand, I hate to see the child suffer cause their parent is an idiot. They all ready have a big enough handicap in life being raised by an idiot.

Didn't someone else tout how "community" could help families become stronger and more self sufficient years ago?

Only the author didn't refer to it as a community back then...what was the word...VILLAGE.

Something bout it takes a village or something similar?
I believe the phrase is "It takes a village to raise a child."

Wait...I think I heard this approach before...

What sort of community based assistance would benefit best by being modified towards helping families help themselves?
