How did he get to be a Rear Admiral then? That's a hell of an accomplishment.
Don't blame him for backing out. He doesn't need the job.
I wouldn't want it. I couldn't head an agency I believe is broken beyond repair and should be shut down - permanently.

Problems with the VA goes back over 25 years from incompetence in local VA outlets to outright corruption from management at the top....
The guys out anyway so it makes no difference now.....no matter who Trump picks the Dem. obstruction will kick in.
Actually they accomplished a lot, They computerized the VA which was a paper system when they took over. Problem is the VA is always getting more work than we can keep up with because we are always at war. The real answer is universal healthcare and the soldiers can go anyplace they want. Although the vets I know really like the care the VA gives.. Doctors do not make money by the procedure. They try to take care of the case as clearly and quickly as possible. Doctors should be on salary.
With universal healthcare, the VA can be disbanded and all that tax money goes to universal care.

McDonald was head of the VA for 2-1/2 years, after having been unanimously confirmed by both House and Senate. As you said, the VA problems go back for 2-1/2 DECADES; did you expect a miracle?
