2016 and 2020 seem somewhat similar to me. A very close election with one candidate having a comfortable margin until late night when the election began to turn. Then, the losing candidate claimed cheating. Hillary's supporters didn't take her seriously while Trump's supporters believed him.

2. Those "massive majorities" were made up of presidential primary voters. Only about 27% of registered voters vote in their party's primary. Primary voters are the most loyal and enthusiastic party supporters. They like Trump and Biden. That leaves 73% of other registered voters who are not nearly as enthusiastic.
