WASHINGTON — The Justice Department confirmed in a court filing there is no evidence that Trump Tower was targeted for surveillance by the Obama administration — contradicting President Trump's controversial claim first made in March.

A "Motion for Summary Judgment" filed Friday evening in D.C. district court says neither the FBI nor the Justice Department's National Security Division have records confirming wiretaps that Trump accused the Obama administration of ordering.

The document was submitted in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by American Oversight, a government watchdog group. While the FBI had denied any such surveillance, it's the first time the Justice Department has issued a denial. It was done the Friday night before Labor Day.

As controversy over the Trump campaign's ties to Russia intensified earlier this year, Trump took to Twitter to accuse Obama of wiretapping him during the 2016 election. Without providing any evidence, he called the alleged taps "McCarthyism" and even called Obama "bad" or "sick."

Some legal experts have argued that this could be an impeachable offense -- as he acted with malicious intent, and with reckless regard for the truth, against both his predecessor and against the intelligence community.
 
odd, given that the board lib'ruls also claim this surveillance produced the evidence of colluuuuusion that triggered Meuller's appointment........

Agree. When he was elected, I gave him one year before he had a breakdown. For a minute, I thought he was ahead of schedule. With Mueller getting ever closer to uncovering all of trump's dirty little secrets, I believe I might be on target with my prediction. It's like a modern day 'Telltale Heart', where trump can't stand the fact that he's ultimately going to get caught.


My first post referred to the lawsuit that would have to wait until trump isn't POTUS anymore. I think the odds are better that he quits before the inept House ever dreams about impeachment.

In either case, we are worse off with Pence.
 
You are suddenly surprised that the Donald is a liar? No Preisent in American history has lied as much as this man has. Its become a daily occurrence.

The investigation is going to end in findings of money-laundering, and Trump will have to use his vaunted deal-making abilities to get himself out of a prison sentence.
