Former president and current GOP nominee Donald Trump on Sunday admitted he “hated” to pay his staff overtime and would instead replace them with other workers to avoid doing so.

Trump’s confession came during a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, after promising to deliver “gigantic tax cuts” via his pledge to end the tax on tips, overtime and social security benefits for seniors.

“I know a lot about overtime. I hated to give overtime. I hated it. I’d get other people, I shouldn’t say this, but I’d get other people in. I wouldn’t pay,” Trump boasted.

Nobody likes to pay overtime. In our business the only people who work overtime is US. It's more than just the money BTW. You end up paying time and a half for 2/3rds normal production. It's a losing deal. People aren't robots,...they tire throughout the day and their production drops .

What did Trump say?
Although he did not lay out the specifics of his plan, Trump said he was making the proposal to give "people more of an incentive to work." This plan is similar to his "no tax on tips" proposal, which he announced earlier in his campaign, to stop collecting taxes on tipped wages.


“I’m also announcing that as part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime,” Trump announced during a Tuscon, Arizona, rally Thursday. “That gives people more of an incentive to work.”

“The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country, and for too long, no one in Washington has been looking out for them,” Trump continued. “It’s time for the working man and woman to finally catch a break, and that’s what we’re doing because this is a good one. And I think it’s going to be great for the country.”

Who would be affected?
It’s unclear exactly how many people in the United States currently work overtime or would be eligible for Trump’s proposal, should it come to fruition.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates for 2023, 34.4 million people were both hourly and salaried employees and worked more than 40 hours a week. Many of those workers, though, are not eligible for overtime.

This should have been done DECADES ago. Maybe not no tax on overtime but LESS and certainly not MORE.
 
When I was young and on payroll I put in 68 to 70 hours a week and uncle Sam couldn't wait to hammer me on overtime pay. I despised it,...who wouldn't.
 
Protect the rich! **** that middle class worker who is trying to get ahead. Just hire another person at min wage and avoid paying over time altogether!

Why would it be a minimum wage worker? I certainly wasn't paid minimum wage by a long shot.

Why were you working at minimum wage? No marketable skills I presume. If you had them you wouldn't be forced to work for a pittance. No one forced you to work there for so little,....it is what your worth was on the open market. Blame yourself.

Why not just send them home then? Why not hire a second shift at regular pary? Oh, right, Trump hates American workers.

Good thing he has MAGAt donations to pay his American staff....not to mention all those Chinese sweatshop workers making his merch. :thup:

MAGAts fall into two categories; the rich leaders and the poor suckers. Very few are rich leaders, most are poor suckers.
