Trump's foreign policy speech

You are a brave man, I can't watch O'Reilly, and I think we will see more of the same as Trump is pinned down on his answers
O'Reilly is a tool. He's a drug warrior, But he at least knows the world.
I'm surprised he didn't challenge Trump more though. Trump is a greenhorn, but could learn if he showed an interest.
My biggest complaint is he is content to campaign on rhetoric.

He's not a serious guy -unlike Cruz,Jeb,Fiorina, Kasich...all are better informed

It is the complaint I have read from people who have quit his campaign that he really has no interest in learning or listening, they really didn't think he wants to be President, he just wanted the bragging rights.

O'Reilly's efforts toward impartiality are undermined by Hannity having Trump's cock in his mouth.

Trump, based on his policy speech, seems less inclined to use force haphazardly. But when it is used there should be a clear path to victory. The only people who would disagree with that, especially after the last 15 years, won't like anything Trump has to say---because he's Trump lol.

He also used a TelePrompTer for the second time. If I was his advisor I'd counsel sticking to it because he can come off as 'presidential' as anyone in the field.

I also like his 'not going for the false song of globalism bit'. Trump is right: we always seem to come up on the short end of the stick on some of these trade treaties. Screw that, let's get back to putting American interests first.

Overall, I think his speech was pretty good and has an excellent chance of persuading the undecideds.

Trump using teleprompter, good. Obama using teleprompter, bad. Wonder if we'll start seeing cartoons like this about Trump?

Here's a snippet:

My goal is to establish a foreign policy that will endure for several generations. That is why I will also look for talented experts with new approaches, and practical ideas, rather than surrounding myself with those who have perfect resumes but very little to brag about except responsibility for a long history of failed policies and continued losses at war.

Finally, I will work with our allies to reinvigorate Western values and institutions. Instead of trying to spread “universal values” that not everyone shares, we should understand that strengthening and promoting Western civilization and its accomplishments will do more to inspire positive reforms around the world than military interventions. I couldn't care less about Trump's steaks or what he's said about them. But I can't find a problem with what he said in those two paragraphs from his speech. What amazes me is why more liberals don't see it that way too.

If he pulls it off, it's a recipe for less war.

"Reinvigorate Western values and institutions" with our allies is a red flag for me. A big part of the world is perfectly happy with its own, non-Western values.

There's one reason above all others that President Obama uses a teleprompter in delivering most of his speeches: he's good at it.

Ronald Reagan was the same way. He was more at ease in reading his speech off the dual screens of a teleprompter than looking up and down at a speech text on his lectern

Not so, George W. Bush. He often got that nervous, deer-in-the-headlights look when giving an address from a teleprompter. He would seem stiff and ill-at-ease. He did not convey a sense of understanding.

"He preferred using large index cards," said his one-time White House Press Secretary Ari Fleisher, "plus I think he was just more comfortable with the cards."

Will these cons never learn?

Male Nursie has been gushing like a schoolgirl all day about what a great speech his Dear Leader gave.

Forcing our culture and values on the Middle East is like the Muslims forcing Sharia on us...but the cons don't see it. :palm:

Your average con isn't noted for the ability to think on several levels at the same time. :(

You always make me laugh, then the Catholic guilt kicks in!

Yes, the "guilt" is there, when you go to parochial school it is drilled into you, and you never outgrow it, even when you try.

Maybe the crayons got smeared on the screen.

Trump is just an awful orator. He does deliver a lot of comedy gold and how about Bill Knight! Lol
Sarah Palin and Bill Knight! What more is there to come?

"Western" is a code word for "white". It's a racist, nationalist term.

Death to the west! Death to Israel! Death to imperialism! Death to Christianity!

western values are generally considered to be democracy and human rights..
There are worldwide problems with human rights, but democracy ( at least superficial) is more and more prevalent.

It's good to speak up for both. It'snot good to spread either by the barrel of a gun -which is the definition of a neocon.

Recall Clinton is still crowing about Libyan elections and the use of "smart power"
Nevermind it was spread by Tomahawk missiles.

I took Trumps meaning as spread by soft power .

Even Saudi Arabia and Iran are so called democracies. so was Assad a democratically elected leader of Syria..

It's when we do regime change and overthrow dictators like in Iraq and Libya...... blowback time
