Trump’s approval rating hits rock bottom—now worse than the worst president ever, says new poll

President Donald Trump is facing yet another wave of concerning numbers in a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, signaling growing dissatisfaction across several key areas of his presidency.
The poll revealed that Trump continues to struggle with public approval, particularly on major policy fronts such as immigration, economic management, and what he refers to as his “big beautiful bill.” Only 38% of respondents said they approve of the job Trump is doing overall, while a significant 54% disapproved.
Historically, immigration has been viewed as one of Trump’s stronger issues. However, the latest numbers suggest that even this area is beginning to slip. The survey found that 43% of voters gave him a positive rating on immigration, but a larger share—54%—expressed disapproval. This sentiment deepens when focusing on deportations specifically, with only 40% approving of how Trump is addressing the matter, and 56% disapproving.
Economic management—a topic Trump often cites as one of his administration’s successes—is also showing signs of public weariness. Despite consistently highlighting his trade strategies and recent tax overhaul, only 40% of voters said they approve of his economic performance. His handling of trade fared slightly worse, coming in at 38% approval. These numbers follow a volatile period after Trump introduced sweeping tariffs on foreign imports—policies he partially rolled back after seeing stock markets react negatively.
Another element dragging down the president’s ratings is his so-called “big beautiful bill,” a sweeping legislative package that includes deep tax cuts and significant reductions to Medicaid. Despite Republican backing, the bill hasn’t resonated with most voters. The poll indicates that 53% of respondents oppose the bill. Although 67% of Republicans support it, broader public opinion shows resistance, especially regarding Medicaid provisions.
The poll also explored how voters view Medicaid’s future. Nearly half—47%—said funding for the program should be increased. Another 40% believe it should remain at current levels, while just 10% think it should be reduced. As polling analyst Tim Malloy noted, “With Medicaid’s future as a healthcare safety net for millions suddenly uncertain, voters make it clear they want the 60-year-old program for those in need to be handled with care.”

Foreign policy wasn’t spared either. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine appears to be another area where Trump lacks public support. According to the poll, only 34% of voters approve of how the administration is dealing with the war. Malloy added, “As the Russia-Ukraine war grinds through its third year, Americans make it clear they have little appetite for the way the Trump administration is handling the situation.”
The survey was conducted among 1,265 registered voters between June 5 and June 10 and carries a margin of error of ±2.8 percentage points.
