Trump’s Approval Plunges to Record Low After Democratic Sweep: Poll
Donald Trump's approval rating has hit a new low.
Donald Trump’s approval rating has hit a new low.
A recent Emerson College poll of 1,000 registered voters reveals that only 41% approve of the president’s performance, while 49% disapprove. This represents a four-point drop since October and a precipitous eight-point fall from the 49% approval rating he enjoyed when he returned to office.
“Nearly a year after his inauguration, President Trump’s approval rating has reversed since the first Emerson College poll of the new administration,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of the Emerson College Poll.
Kimball added that Trump’s support among his base is rapidly eroding. Since his inauguration, Trump has lost support among key demographic groups: his approval rating among Republican voters has fallen 12 percentage points, from 91% to 79%, and his disapproval rating has risen among independent voters (from 44% to 51%) and Hispanics (from 39% to 54%). Emerson isn’t the only one reporting bad news for the president. A CNN/SSRS poll conducted earlier this month found that 63% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance, the highest disapproval rating of his two terms. A YouGov/Economist poll conducted in late October showed that his net approval rating had plummeted to -18%, its lowest level ever.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Trump. His second term has been shaken by the lingering fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein affair, the government shutdown—now the longest in U.S. history—and growing frustration with broken campaign promises. Inflation continues to soar, food prices keep rising, and patience is wearing thin.
Yet Trump persists in claiming he is doing well. After the latest polls were released, he used Truth Social to denounce the wave of negative results, calling them a conspiracy.
“The far-left media are running lots of rigged polls, all very favorable to Democrats and the far left,” Trump wrote on Monday. “In fair polls, and even reasonable polls, I’m getting the highest turnout scores you’ve ever seen, so why not?” “
