Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has heard Donald Trump send signals that he’s willing to “soften” his plans to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants — and she’s not happy about it.
In an appearance on The O’Reilly Factor on Thursday evening, Palin told guest host Eric Bolling that she’s concerned that Trump is already starting to sell out, and warned that he could lose his base of support if he keeps going in this direction.
“Candidate Trump didn’t garner a lot of enthusiastic support by being soft on anything,” she told Bolling. “Softening on the position of illegal immigration isn’t going to win over any supporters.”
Palin was happy that Trump is still insistent on building the giant wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and noted that “if he were not, then there would be a huge erosion of support.”
Earlier in the day, Palin told the Wall Street Journal that she was feeling more and more concerned about Trump’s shifting positions on immigration and urged him to stand firm.
“If Mr. Trump were to go down a path of wishy-washy positions taken on things that the core foundation of his support has so appreciated, and that is respecting our Constitution and respecting law and order in American, then, yeah, there would be a massive disappointment,” she said. “Parts of the message we heard in the last week are clearly not consistent with the stringent position and message that supporters have received all along.”
