Trump Wants America's Kids to Eat More Salt?!!

Bottom line. It's up to parents to feed their OWN kids healthier foods (salt-free if you like). The gub can set guidelines all they want, but our bodies don't belong to the gub.

I have been reading nutrition books and all things related for nearly 2 years now. Salt itself is not the bad guy. What we eat that has far too much salt in it as well as other crap is what's bad for us. Salt turned into the bad guy when sugar was pushed into every product out there. There are studies which state that sugar is good for us. There used to be advertisements condoning eating sugar is good for your children. In order to replace salt with sugar on the table and in your cupboards and fridge, salt had to be demonized and sugar made king.

No tin foil needed.

you are having difficulty following the conversation. No one said salt is the bad guy. What was said is too much salt is the bad guy. Too much salt causes hypertension. Try to keep up.

That's what's being left out of this discussion and the article. I mean on the surface, yes, I would like kids to eat less salt. But what have the results been to this legislation? And if it means kids are eating less at school and more food is being thrown out does it need to be changed?

Not seeing any citations but if kids are hungry they eat what they are given.

Remember, he's from the crowd that thinks Carbon dioxide, a gas that is emitted as part of life by all animals is pollution. Katzgar is the grand poobah of the ignorant deplorables.

Really?
So any product labeled food is good for you?
Quick, alert the FDA that their services are no longer required.

idiot

prove it. there that was easy
Most systems post their breakfast and lunch menus, for elemntary, middle, and high schools. Look them up. You'll not find them to be poisoning any students. And I guess if you feel that they are Really poisoning your children, grandchildren, or neighbors, you can pack their lunch for them.
That was easy.

Then how do you justify his actions?
Did you think Reagan was correct to declare ketchup a vegetable?

Now Rune, did Reagan really do that? ;) This is how I remember it...

http://www.culinarylore.com/food-history:did-reagon-really-say-ketchup-was-a-vegetable

During Ronald Reagan's terms as president, I was in junior high and then high school. At some point during that time he became a running joke during lunch period. When French fries were served, or anything else involving ketchup, we'd say "Good thing Ronald Reagan says ketchup is a vegetable." ... more at link

Cliff’s notes ... the article points to some of the [perceived] bad things Reagan’s policies did but falls short of crediting him with the change.

Pack your kids lunch. Then you are in control. Problem solved.
Except the people complaining about school lunches here would pack the child a lunchable, a bag of chips, a package of cookies, with a juice box to wash it all down.
And the promise of ramen noodles when they get home...

Probably true. "Hey this one has apple flavoring. That's like a fruit." :awesome:

The reality is that people are not willing to make the tough decision--you have to constrain teacher pay and divert that money into huge increases in cafeteria budgets to make low-salt/sugar a realty and that isn't going to happen. Lunch ladies generally don't have a union.
