Trump Voter Gets Choked Up After ICE Detains a Third of His Staff

I don't have any sympathy for this roofing contractor. He voted to put himself out of business.
Pretty much. In AZ, contractors that use illegals for labor know they can get rolled up and deported. They have contingency plans to get replacements.

I remember one time I needed a massive order of block, 12 cubes in fact. There was a shortage at the time and it was hard to get a large order if you weren't a regular customer. So, I went through a third party contractor I knew. He mostly did landscaping and block fence so he could get the block I needed. When it came time to deliver the block, his illegals wouldn't go to the site as it was closer to the border and they were afraid they'd get rolled up. So, he fired the lot and got new workers. His legal workers delivered the block.

And a lot of us went to other countries and heard the people there say " those stupid Americans " sticking their noses into everybody's business and giving everything away.
They are sooooo stupid.
We got to see what the rest of the world thought of us.
Many of us have seen some Americans yell at foreigners "Learn the fucking language!" yet, over several deployments, I saw similar Americans never even try to learn the language of the country we were stationed or visiting.

It quickly became clear to me that asking a store owner in Okinawa or Honshu if they spoke English often resulted in them shaking their heads "no". I later learned that almost all of them had learned English in school but didn't want to look stupid in front of a foreigner by speaking English poorly. By breaking out my service-provided phrase book and butchering their language in front of them asking for a price or the location of the bathroom, the smiles and broken English eventually came out. It's one reason why I believe most people are good. Better when they drop their fears.

The Trump modeling agency was a thinly disguised human trafficking operation.

Nobody in their right mind thinks Trump has a genuine professional interest in high fashion.
When Trump tore down a 5th avenue building, Trump had an army of Polish immigrants tearing it down. At that time I wondered where he got them. But then, crooks have their ways.

The Trump dummy roofing contractor in the article cited says it can take years to train someone to be a good roofer.

Years? I guess it could if you are a mouth breather with an IQ of 50... Roofing isn't exactly rocket science. The types of roofs out there are fairly limited, and most are not difficult to install.

BUYER’S REMORSE

A Florida roofing boss backed the president’s tough immigration policies. Then six of his workers were taken away...

A Florida man who voted for President Donald Trump has lost nearly one-third of his employees amid immigration raids.

Six workers for a small roofing company were apprehended by federal immigration agents in the Lower Keys on May 27 after being stopped.

"It's going to be really hard to replace those guys," Vincent Scardina, the owner of the roofing company, told NBC South Florida in an emotional interview. "We're not able in Key West to just replace people as easily as, say, a big city, very limited people to pull from, and then you would have to train them, and that takes sometimes years."

Newsweek has contacted Smith and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for comment.

Why It Matters

Trump pledged during his campaign to remove millions of migrants without legal status as part of a hardline mass deportation policy. The White House has said anyone living in the country illegally is considered to be a "criminal." Critics say the immigration raids sow fear into vulnerable communities.

What To Know

The men, who are from Nicaragua, have valid work permits, according to NBC South Florida.

"They are legally here. They have an authorization to stay," Regilucia Smith, the attorney for the men, told NBC South Florida.

In a defiant message, Scardina slammed Trump's flagship deportation policy.

"What happened here? This situation is just totally just blatantly not at all what they said it was," he told NBC South Florida.

Although Scardina supports most of the president's policies, he believed the Trump administration would focus exclusively on deporting criminals. Now, he says, it feels like immigration officials are simply trying to meet quotas.

ICE has faced ramped-up pressure to increase arrests amid growing demand for more enforcement operations by the Trump administration. The government is looking to remove more than a million immigrants in 2025.

Virgil Scardina, who works for the company, said he believes they were pulled over because "they were six Latino men in a work truck."

What People Are Saying

Roofing company owner Vincent Scardina: "It's not just happening to me. I mean, it's happening across the board to several contractors. I know they're all being hit by this hard. I know of one landscaper that lost nine or 10 of his whole crew he had and he's just totally out of business all of a sudden, just like that."

You should not ignore Trump's hypocrisy. He is a person who says one thing and does another. He has cheated workers and contractors his whole life. He has hired illegals and cheated them out of their pay. He has left a trail of cheated and broken workers. When he claims he is on the side of workers, the stupid Trumpys post it like it has meaning and value. Trump has not hidden his disdain for people who are not super wealthy. he is a bad joke on America and will leave it in much worse condition when he is done looting it.

I support legal guest worker programs for jobs Americans generally can't or won't do.

Working on roofs in the Florida summer heat must be a shit job to do.
Agreed. Even GW recognized this almost 20 years ago and asked for immigration reform but the budding racists in the Republican Party didn't want to do it so there was no immigration reform bill.

Tonight, President Bush Will Call On Congress To Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform. The President believes that America can simultaneously be a lawful, economically dynamic, and welcoming society. We must address the problem of illegal immigration and deliver a system that is secure, productive, orderly, and fair. The President calls on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that will secure our borders, enhance interior and worksite enforcement, create a temporary worker program, resolve – without animosity and without amnesty – the status of illegal immigrants already here, and promote assimilation into our society. All elements of this problem must be addressed together – or none of them will be solved.
The bill was introduced in the United States Senate on May 9, 2007, but was never voted on,
