He pleaded guilty to an illegal (at that time) homosexual offense and was thrown in jail.

He wasn't sent to gaol, he was given the alternative of chemical castration using cyproterone acetate. This led to him growing breasts and bloating which may have been some of the reasons for his suicide. Pretty damn shocking and barbaric, the world lost a genius who could have contributed so much more otherwise.

NO .. the Constitution states that the president can be prosecuted .. which he could not be if he had the power to pardon himself .. and if he could, he could commit murder or any heinous crime with impunity.

How do innocent people serve decades in prison for a crime they didn't commit?
What does that have to do with pardons? If they are determined to be innocent of a crime, then they are exonerated, not pardoned.

A pardon however, is a situation where the suspect is indeed found guilty but is forgiven for his act and his sentence is cut short.
