This was going to hit critical mass after awhile, anyway. Republicans could win electoral counts - but they almost never win the popular vote, and the gap has generally been trending in the wrong direction for that party.
It would be hard for them to win elections anymore the "normal" way. Trump turned SCOTUS into a radical right-wing body, ready to do the GOP's bidding. He's getting "Big Lie" believers elected at every level of government, in most states. Hundreds of voter suppression efforts have either been passed or are being considered.
And SCOTUS is now right there to uphold any challenge to those, as well as all of the gerrymandering that goes on.
Democrats will have to overperform to win elections in the years ahead. We're becoming a country of minority rule - and we're allowing it all to happen, as well.
