Trump Says He Stands With Intel Agencies on Russia Meddling

President Donald Trump said he is “with our agencies” in the intelligence community regarding the question of whether Russia meddled in the 2016 election, but once again stopped short of definitively laying out his view on the extent of the interference or Russia’s role in it.

Trump on Sunday said he thinks it’s time for the country to move on from the controversy surrounding Russian election interference -- currently the subject of a criminal probe and several congressional investigations -- in the interest of building greater ties to Russia to solve global problems.

He also sought to clarify his view on whether he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denials over meddling.

“What I said there is that I believe he believes that and it’s very important for somebody to believe.
I believe that he feels that he and Russia didn’t meddle in the election. As to whether I believe it or not, I’m with our agencies, especially as currently constituted with their leadership,”
Trump said at a news conference in Hanoi.

“I believe in our intel agencies, our intelligence agencies. I’ve worked with and very strongly,” Trump said. “Now, at the same time, I want to be able -- because I think it’s very important -- to get along with Russia, to get along with China, to get along with Vietnam, to get along with lots of countries because we have a lot of things we have to solve."

“I feel that having Russia in a friendly posture, as opposed to always fighting with them, is an asset not a liability,” he said.

Earlier, Trump tweeted that only “haters and fools” can’t see the benefits of a good relationship with Russia.

“Every time he sees me he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” the U.S. president said Saturday after meeting the Russian leader briefly on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam.

“I think he is very insulted by it, if you want to know the truth. Don’t forget. All he said was he never did that, he didn’t do that. I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Hanoi. “You can only ask so many times.”

Trump instead called the accusations about Russia “an artificial Democratic hit job” that makes it harder to resolve diplomatic issues.

“When will all the haters and fools out there realize that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. There always playing politics - bad for our country. I want to solve North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, terrorism, and Russia can greatly help!” he wrote on Twitter.

can you ASSHATS hold 2 simultaneous ideas in your noggin at the same time??

OK fine Russian meddling - do you remember during the Bill Clinton impeachment when the MoveOn movement
said enough already -lets get on with the business of the county?

Trump is on a very successful trip -getting China to agree that a nuclear NK is unacceptable-
but we need Russia on board too..the trip to Vietnam was also important
and today the Philippines and littoral states to check China

Nor can Syria ever be stabilized without the US and Russia on the same page there..

"Time to move on, time to get going" ( Tom Petty) .
The world doesn't stop because of Russian meddling over a year ago in our election.

we did the sanctions, now it's time for diplomacy

Its also time for Mueller to move on with his investigation, we need more indictments from Trump and associates

like i said " can you hold 2 simultaneous ideas in your noggin at the same time?"

Mueller's gonna do what Mueller's gonna do. The world moves on.
We cannot stabilize Syria with Russian help nor effectively >squeeze< NK. I won't even go into NATO/Uk. MoveOn.

Mueller had better do what he is going to do and quickly, the world has learned that Trump is a joke and no one takes him seriously. I doubt if he has a single capable person in his entire administration. We need a real politician to help straighten out our problems.

garbage post. repetitive partisan nonsense, without merit..
now do you want to address the idea(s) that Muellers investigation is NOT a reason for no cooperation
with Russia on matters of mutual interest?

I have to quote you to tell you what you said....holy crap skippy. " -lets get on with the business of the county?"
no . you have to actually speak in a sentence.
I'll take a guess here and say the "business of the USA"

Getting on with the "business of the country" entails moving on past wallowing in RussiaGate

trump has destroyed his repututation on this matter annatta

Former U.S. intelligence director James Clapper had told Reuters: "The fact the president of the United States would take Putin at his word over that of the intelligence community is quite simply unconscionable."

The Russian issue has clouded Trump's first year in office and his comments on Saturday were a distraction from his five-nation Asia tour.

Trump said he still believed Putin did not think there had been Russian meddling.

"I believe that President Putin really feels, and feels strongly, that he did not meddle in our election," Trump said, while adding: "What he believes is what he believes."

He’s walking it back in a way that he thinks doesn’t upset his man crush.

he will just say it again some time

he lives in a lie filled world that soothes him from the reality that he is a complete failure as a human being

You went to the trouble to bold and highlight this statement like it was one of the most astute and profound political observations since the days of Thomas Jefferson.

But you know what? It is all horseshit.

As any responsible adult ever said we should "always" be fighting with Russia?

No?

Then the statement is just more Trump horseshit.

No one has ever said we should not cooperate with Russia where we have mutual interests. We have many mutual interests with them including trade, nuclear proliferation, international crime and terrorism, climate change and global environmental issues. The Russians can be enormously helpful on a range of international issues.

All that does not preclude us, as citizens of the world, from upholding international law - the premise that a militarily stronger nation cannot take territory from a weaker, sovereign state. That is a premise that came out of the aftermath of World War 2, and in my opinion is one of humanity's great moral achievements of the last century

he clarified..not "walked back" if you read the original remarks you can see he's saying Putin beleives what he believes, and there is no point pounding the same thing over and over.

However I do not expect partisan hacks to ever give anyone benefit of a doubt when language can be parsed.
None of which matters anyways. except to hacks and pundits.

The point he made in Hanoi cannot be refuted. If you want a diplomatic solving of the NK crisis, you have to bring Russia in too. Russia at least could keep the regime going with oil -no matter what China does.

The same in Syria..engage or be left out

I went over this yesterday before you baled on the referendum -where you said they had no say in their future.

Autonomous Republic of Crimea
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_Republic_of_Crimea

How far do you think Trump would get if he proposed that deal?
(Crimea recognition for getting out of Donbass) Just look at your hysterical reaction!

If you want to solve problems , you have to deal, and if you have to deal you can't have your hands tied by lilliputians like McCain.
Both Trump and Putin have said the same - the US hysteria to all things Russian effectively blocks any progress..

Your dismissal that "noone says we can't cooperate" is not true in the real world of US politics.

And this is exactly what Trump was saying -we need to get past this horseshit ( Mueller of course does his job)
without Russiaphobic hysteria anytime a proposition to mend/improve relations is made

Do we trust or believe Putin in the matter of hacking into our systems, hell no!
