Trump Says He Might Have to Sell Properties to Pay $454 Million Judgment

In seeking relief, Mr. Trump’s lawyers disclosed that they would be unable to secure a bond for the full amount, raising the prospect that he might soon default on the judgment if the appeals court denies his request.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump’s lawyers told a New York appellate court Wednesday that he’s prepared to post a $100 million bond to halt collection of his staggering civil fraud penalty, arguing that provisions of the verdict make it impossible for the former president to secure a bond for the full amount.

Trump’s lawyers floated the offer in court papers asking the state’s mid-level appeals court for an order preventing New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office from enforcing the $454 million judgment while his appeal plays out. Trump would have to post the full amount to pause collection automatically.

Posting a bond that the appeals court accepts would prevent the attorney general, Letitia James, from collecting the judgment until Mr. Trump’s appeal is resolved. Without a bond or pause from the court, Ms. James can seize Mr. Trump’s bank accounts and potentially take control of his New York properties. In its own filing, Ms. James’s office asked the appeals court to deny Mr. Trump’s request.

“There is no merit to defendants’ contention that a full bond or deposit is unnecessary because they are willing to post a partial undertaking of less than a quarter of the judgment amount,” the attorney general’s office wrote.

He’s trying to play “let’s make a deal”. He’s offered $100 million. This is hilarious! Oh, the humiliation his lawyers must face. They know this is not how the courts work.

OK, I have to admit it: I’m enjoying the spectacle of Donald Trump begging for a delay in the $454 million fine he’s required to pay for fraudulently inflating his net worth, for two reasons.

First, his inability to come up with the cash basically confirms the charges: He isn’t as rich as he claims to be. Second, his evident inability to get anyone to lend him the money is poetic justice for a man who has a history of bilking gullible investors.

Anyone willing to lie that their 10 thousand sq. ft penthouse is 30 thousand sq ft is likely to lie about having 400k in liquid cash assets.

And, what happens if on appeal, NY state loses and the judge(s) orders that Trump has his money returned? Will he get those properties back? Will James or Engeron be held libel in the least for their actions?

This part isn't about Trump. When our justice system and the process of being brought to court becomes the punishment, there is a problem with our justice system, and that problem is huge.

It won't be appealed. There is absolutely no grounds for appeal.

In fact, Engoron allowed trump to make a mockery of the entire process in order to keep his ruling appeal proof.
