4,000 Suspected Terrorists Stopped at the Mexico Border, Says White House. Actually, It’s More Like Six, Reports U.S. Customs

By KEVIN KELLEHER January 7, 2019

U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered only six immigrants on the U.S.-Mexico border whose names were in a federal database of known or suspected terrorists, contradicting earlier White House claims that nearly 4,000 suspected terrorists were stopped at the country’s southern border.

The disclosure, made by Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen Monday and first reported by NBC News, concerned only the first half of 2018. Of 41 people stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border by the CBP in that period, 35 were U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, with the other six classified as non-residents.
By contrast, the CBP encountered 91 people at the U.S.-Canada border whose names were on the federal list, with 41 of them non-U.S. citizens or residents, NBC said.

On Friday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, said that CBP stopped nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists from crossing the southern border in 2018. Fact-checks of Sanders’ statement showed that the 4,000 figure applied to 2017, not 2018, and included stops made by DHS officials around the globe, with the vast majority of them occurring at airports.

And those six are just names that appeared on the watch list - that doesn't necessarily mean they're terrorists.

[h=1]Kellyanne Conway Corrects Sarah Sanders' Border Terrorist Claim: 'Unfortunate Misstatement'[/h]
Kellyanne Conway said her colleague, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, made an “unfortunate misstatement” on illegal immigration at the border on Fox News.

Laura Ingraham asked Conway about those numbers on Fox News Tuesday night, asking if “not getting these basic facts right” hurts “the credibility of the White House.”

Conway held that Sanders “conflated” statistics about the illegal immigrants at the southern border. [Note: Sanders wasn’t the only one — DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen made a similarly false claim, as did Vice President Mike Pence.]

Ingraham was charitable to the administration for repeatedly lying, instead opting to blast the media for “cherry picking” mistakes made by the administration.

“That was an unfortunate misstatement,” Conway said. “Everybody makes mistakes, all of us. The fact is — it’s corrected here.”

This 'kid' is pretty no nonsense. She's good, quick, not hyperbolic. And even though she said HE'S LYING, she still 'couched' it. (Instead of the M.FKR just lied to my face).

MSNBC anchor Hallie Jackson blasted Vice President Mike Pence for lying to her face after he repeated a well-debunked claim that 4,000 terrorists have tried to enter the United States through the border with Mexico, and was backed up by national security reporter Julia Ainsley.

“I was a little surprised to hear the vice president again raise that number about 4,000 known or suspected terrorists when that has been widely debunked,” Jackson said. “It’s one of the most headline-grabbing misleading claims that members this administration has made, and Vice President Mike Pence knows that.”

Really? KellyAnne admitted it? I wanna feel sorry for Sanders. But she chooses to STAY.

A lot of people on the watch list are suspected terrorists, but that's just it...suspected, not proven.

So I'll ask!
By extension did TRUMP think 4000 'proven' or 'UNPROVEN' terrorist suspects came to the BORDER? So if he knows THAT, we 'caught' them, right? Otherwise how would he know? Or we caught them and someone forgot to log them in the database? (Sarcasm). Or did 4000 people who might be or could be TERRORISTS, not on a list, came to the border? Again, how could TRUMP know?

What am I missing here? Or, as I suspect, he just pulled the NUMBER OUT OF HIS ASS?

Yes, he pulled the number out of his ass.

I heard the #'s early. I think they said 24 have tried to come in on the CANADIAN border. Does Trump want to build a wall there? Any discussion at all?

State Department reports on terrorism have expressed more concern about Canada, which unlike Mexico has been home to “violent extremists inspired by terrorist groups such as ISIS and al-Qaida and their affiliates and adherents,” as it said in 2017. When it comes to land crossings, Canada has more often been the source of terrorism suspects entering the U.S., though not in great numbers. By far the majority of people who arouse concern try to enter by air.

Yes, he pulled the number out of his ass.

YEP! But all those other 'smart people' around him let him? Or did they think WE couldn't work through the absurd logic (or lack of)?

The FUNNIEST, okay saddest, line I heard today was a FOX'r trying to throw shade over the #'s or Trump or whatever. I'm paraphrasing, 'maybe 4000 are going to come in the future.'
