Trump Privately Frets He Could Be Headed to Prison

In the past several months, Donald Trump has had a burning question for some of his confidants and attorneys:

Would the authorities make him wear “one of those jumpsuits” in prison?

As the criminal cases against him have piled up, the former president and 2024 GOP frontrunner has wondered aloud in recent months about what life would be like if he’s convicted, and if appeals fail. While Trump publicly professes confidence, privately, three sources familiar with his comments say, he’s been asking lawyers and other people close to him what a prison sentence would look like for a former American president.

Would he be sent to a “club fed” style prison — a place that’s relatively comfortable, as far these things go — or a “bad” prison?

Would he serve out a sentence in a plush home confinement? Would government officials try to strip him of his lifetime Secret Service protections? What would they make him wear, if his enemies actually did ever get him in a cell — an unprecedented set of consequences for a former leader of the free world.

What would happen — including in the Fulton County, Georgia criminal case against him and various co-defendants — if he were convicted and sentenced, but also re-elected?

The private questions are a departure from the air of supreme confidence invincibility Trump has projected. In interviews and elsewhere, he has claimed that the thought of losing in court and going to prison simply cannot enter his mind.

“I don’t even think about it,” Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker during an interview last week. “I’m built a little differently I guess.”

As much as I loathe the pigfucking orangutan Trump,
I for one would rather not abide
the global ignominy
of having a former POTUS in prison.

This is what third world banana republics do.
Civilized nations are expected to be above that.

I don't seek revenge.
I seek the removal of the repugnant Trump from national politics.

We can do that with an ankle monitor.

As for all people being equal,
save that cornball shit for ninth grade civics class.

You know that's it's simply not true
so why go on about it?

As long as our species exists,
rank will have its privileges.

It's the incentive for improving ourselves.

Trump has committed crimes in public, on video, and on the phone. Grand juries composed of citizens find cause to charge him every time. We know what he did. He will be found guilty again and again. But the question remains, will he serve jail time? He is still rich. They do not pay for their crimes very often.

I think they should give him a prison jumpsuit that fits a 215 lb man.

If we are unwilling to put a criminal in prison because of his status, we are no longer a country that believes in the rule of law. Had Ford not pardoned Nixon, we might have never had Donald Trump. He needs to be in prison, period, full stop.

Privilege and status can buy you good lawyers, and that definitely tilts the justice system, but arguing against a prison sentence for someone by virtue of a job they held is a bridge way too far for me.

If we are unwilling to put a criminal in prison because of his status, we are no longer a country that believes in the rule of law.

Nothing is more important than the rule of dignity.

Beyond that, prisons are a stupid idea anyway.

They don't rehabilitate.
They punish
without regards as to whether or not guilt actually exists.

Anti-social behavior is mental deficiency.
Rehabilitate or humanely euthanize.

If you're unwilling to do that,
you must then isolate as humanely as possible.

Prison is the solution for the inadequately evolved.

We're a nation of people, Concart,
who value true-believerism over rational thought.

Rather than mentally evolve and advance,
which require earnest thinking,
we're comfortable with the bullshit we were taught as children.

That's a different topic. Jails should not be used as punishment, but they must exist as a deterrent to criminals. They also must exist because certain people cannot be allowed in society. We should not be locking up non-violent offenders, but we do that (mostly to the black population on drug charges) because there is profit in it. but Donald Trump isn't where we should start fixing that. Right now, I believe Trump fits in the category of an offender who cannot be allowed in society. He should not have access to social media, and he should not have the ability direct his cult.

My policy positions are driven almost entirely by pragmatism. That includes my position on Trump. If the worst that's going to happen to Trump is an ankle monitor so we can see where he is in Mar-a-lago, why would he care?

Self-owning OP.

. If the worst that's going to happen to Trump is an ankle monitor so we can see where he is in Mar-a-lago, why would he care?

Because he won't be allowed to be the orangutan leading the trumpanzees,
and that's all we need as far as he's concerned.

The fat fuck can play bad golf all that he wants.
He won't be on TV.
I won't have to see his face.

Plus, there's the other problem.

What's a bigger problem for this nation,
one orangutan
or 74,000,000 trumpanzees?

What are we doing about them?

So you think the punishment for stealing top secret documents and inciting an insurrection is to let the criminal play golf every day??

You cut the head of the snake, and the snake dies. Toss Trump in prison and those people will crawl back under their rocks. Letting him play golf and tweet or whatever it's called these days doesn't end his influence. His influence ends when two things happen. 1. The prison doors slam behind him and 2. He is destroyed in the 2024 election. Unless and until both those things happen, Trumps influence will continue.

A77-year-old guy with a lifetime of breaking laws and regulations with impunity cannot be rehabbed.

I wouldn't be happy to be one of the secret service officers,
to which he's lawfully entitled for the rest of his life,
having to guard him in prison.

There's just no practicality there.
The ankle monitor is good enough for me.
Opinions will vary, obviously.

Sure there is. Put Trump in solitary, and the SS guys can sit in a cell right next to him for their shifts. Give them whatever they want, easiest gig in the world. I respect your opinion, but do not share it. Trump isn't afraid of an ankle monitor. I think he has been counting on that the whole time, and he's beginning to realize that may not be what happens to him.

So trump should be absolutely certain that he will get fair trial(s). He should absolutely not worry that political forces are at work to ensure he ends up in jail because no one has ever been railroaded right?

The very last thing in the world Trump wants...is a fair trial.

If he gets fair trials...he is going to spend that last years of his life in prison.

He desperately wants an unfair trial...one that favors him.

Trump will be treated in the system the way everyone else is in the system and the one thing we know, is right derps DNGAF when it is someone on the left on trial for their crimes.
