Trump pleads not guilty to federal charges

I do not understand why GOP leaders are defending Trump.

Do they anticipate Trump successfully using violence to overthrow the US government? Do they want a job in his dictatorship?

it is not ethics or respect for the law. They are interested in power and they cannot win without Trump's minions voting for them. Look what happened to Liz Cheney. She was on the side of justice and the law. Lost her seat. Politics is the business of getting re-elected. Going against Trump's crime wave will cost you your job. They are mostly silent and avoid talking about the thief-in-chief. In super Trumpian districts, all they talk about is Daffy Donald.
Lots of Reds hate Trump, but they love their jobs more.

This is a stain on the party that will never wash off.

Because Trump fanatics demand that anyone they will support 'fight for Trump' as they have chanted in his earlier trials.

So while most of the top Republiclowns are wishing the DOJ can take him out, they know that if they, in any way are critical of Trump, and he is forced out, they will not have his hard core base votes in the GE.

They know elections are so close now that the GOP is doomed to even have a chance at the electoral college win, if they lose any decent percent of Trumpderp voters.

So you will see each of them 'fighting for Trump', while secretly praying he goes down, so they can say to his base, 'I can deal with this injustice if elected POTUS. I can fight for Trump'.

the GOP is stuck as they cannot win without Trumps base being motivated to vote, and what motivates them to vote (racism and hate of others and control of women) is what motivates independents and moderate republicans to vote against them.
