Carter has actually quite a legacy. The four years he was President is a small part of it.

Carter did mean well, but went about several things badly. For example, his price controls caused the gas lines and the economic depression of that period, which didn't end until Reagan.

Price controls never work.

He has done a lot of good work with Habitat for Humanity, building homes in places where few could afford to build their own home on their own.
He was also a successful peanut and cotton farmer.
