Trump on the issues

Cheap labor and less tax were some of the reasons so many manufacturing firms left. If the solution was simple it would have been done already.

There is no easy answer and most manufacturing jobs aren't coming back. Blame automation and globalization for that. Trump claims he's going to slap a huge tariff on China which in theory could bring a few jobs back but would ultimately harm our export sector of the economy in which case nothing has been gained.

I agree and wonder why more Trump supporters don't see this about him.

No politician is going to bring back manufacturing jobs and most people are going to vote for someone. Again, I do not like Trump at all and would not vote for him for President. And while I don't agree with people like my Uncle supporting Trump I understand why he feels fed up with all other regular politicians and is excited by someone like Trump.

He made the claim. If he can't back it up, his statement is lame.

One would have to cite the entire internet to prove such a claim. Anyone with an honest bone in their body who was paying attention (which I know you were since I've been told you have been a troll poster for a very long time) would honestly admit that 99.9% of the time when a republican or righty would criticize Obama, they were immediately labeled racists. Some posters still cling to that to this very day.

If you want to deny reality, your choice.

If you want to share CFM's unsubstantiated generalization, I won't try to dissuade you.

Or it means there are parties with a vested interest in keeping the jobs overseas. One of the problems with the establishment is they dont really intend to fix things when they claim to. Immigration is one of those things. Jobs may be another. I don't know why it has to be etched in stone that this country can't significantly increase manufacturing jobs.

If Trump says he can, I'm willing to entertain the possibility he can, because he's not in the pocket of his donors---he doesn't have any. He would also approach trade from a private sector perspective which is a sorely needed plus.

Check out this list from my thread. http://www.justplainpolitics.com/sh...witter-Insults-The-Complete-List-%28So-Far%29

Trump's a bloviating hater who apparently doesn't realize that if he becomes president, he will be president of those he hates in addition to those he approves of.

If Trump says he can then he needs to provide specifics. Talk is cheap.

There have been a few manufacturing jobs that have been 'reshored' but the pay on an equivalent basis from what factory workers made in the '50's and '60's isn't close. Those days aren't coming back. No one is going to be paid $25/hr to make Nike shoes. The economics aren't there.

From a private sector perspective on trade there should be no tariffs. You and I should be able to exchange goods straight up no matter where we are in the world. Trump is talking about doing the opposite with his huge tariffs on China.

I have an Uncle in Ohio who I love dearly. Truly a salt of the earth type guy that would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I've never heard the man make a racist remark my entire life. He's just a genuine good person. He's also more a blue collar type guy. He's not uneducated, he went to a local state college, but he's also not your Ivy League New York consulting/Wall St type person. He's the type that's been left behind by globalization. He's a Trump supporter.

I called him a few weeks back and said "why Trump Uncle Mike"? Right or wrong he likes Trump protectionist trade rhetoric and his bring back the manufacturing jobs rhetoric.

I can't speak personally to why all the other people support Trump but that's my one family story.

Good to hear the perspective. I tend to be very dismissive of Trump supporters, with sweeping generalizations like "what a bunch of fools." But I've heard some interviewed, and some actually seem completely embarassed about the baser aspects of his campaign - yet they still support him, because they think he'll fix the trade thing and really create jobs.

And hey, if he can do that, I'll eat my words. I just think he's a blowhard real estate guy who will have no idea what in the world to do the first time Congress (or anyone) says "no." And I think that as Americans, we should just have a basic standard for the person who we elect to speak for us, which I obviously think he falls well below. Like, even if he can create jobs, I don't want a guy who calls people losers and fat and makes fun of disabled people. It's not a high bar.
