The Trump administration will lift sanctions on companies owned by a Russian oligarch who was targeted over interference in the 2016 election, reports Bloomberg.

Sanctions will be lifted on Rusal, En+ Group Plc and JSC EuroSibEnergo according to a letter sent to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) by Trump’s treasury.
Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, a close Putin ally, will cut his ownership stake below 50 percent, according to the agreement.

“These companies have committed to significantly diminish Deripaska’s ownership and sever his control,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in the statement. “The companies will be subject to ongoing compliance and will face severe consequences if they fail to comply.”

Congress can block the lifting of sanctions, otherwise, they will take effect in 30 days, the Treasury Department said in a statement Wednesday.

The sanctions on Rusal, the world’s second-biggest aluminum company, had caused chaos in the worldwide market for the metal.

As the New York Times reported, Deripaska is “portrayed as little more than a thug by his critics and suspected by United States officials of having ties to Russian organized crime.”

Former Trump campaign boss Paul Manafort was among Deripaska’s clients before being sent to prison after admitting to a number of felonies.

What a mess.. So Trump lifted the sanctions.. Wonder if he thought about it or he was just acting on impulse.

There's more. So IF I'm reading this right, MNUCHIN's Treasury who says Deripaska 'conducts bribery, distortion and racketeering and has or has had people MURDERED' is getting out the way and is to be believed.

from CNN today...

Deripaska, who had a longstanding business relationship with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, faces claims from Treasury of bribery, extortion, racketeering, ordering the murder of a rival businessman and having links to organized crime. In statements provided to London High Court, Deripaska has denied the "alleged basis" of US sanctions.

Sanctions were supposed to take effect immediately in April, but Rusal quickly asked the Treasury Department to lift them. The US government agreed to consider it and gave Rusal until October 23 to unwind its ties to Deripaska. Since then, the Treasury Department has extended the deadline multiple times to allow Deripaska additional time to give up control of his stakes in both firms.
Treasury has been trying to balance its effort to squeeze Russia with its desire not to tank the markets. In November, Treasury said licenses allowing Rusal to continue to do business with existing supply deals would be extended to January 7, 2019. The previous deadline was December 12.

[h=1]Putin Is Calling in His Markers on Trump.[/h]

Marker 1: Pull US troops out of Syria
Marker 2: Get rid of sanctions on Russian aluminum producers.
Marker 3: Who knows? Maybe Trump get's his Pee Tapes back?

Watch for more Trump concessions to Putin in the coming days before January. This could be his attempt to go around the upcoming Democratic-controlled House, or it could be taking care of unfinished business with Putin before Trump has to leave office.

Anyhow, Trump is doing what Putin wants him to do. We will probably see more of this soon.

He's strong on Climate Change.

Deripaska is one of the 16 global business leaders who drafted CEO Climate Policy Recommendations to G8 Leaders, a document outlining the international business community's proposals to tackle global warming. The proposals were signed by more than 100 of the world's leading corporations and handed to the Prime Minister of Japan Yasuo Fukuda on 20 June 2008. The G8 leaders discussed the recommendations during the summit in Japan on 7–9 July 2008. The process was coordinated by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.[72]

Deripaska actively advocates cutting the global carbon footprint and calls for the creation of an enforcement mechanism with consequences for countries that do not reduce carbon-intensive emissions, such as those produced by coal-fired powerplants.[73] He also remains a strong advocate of a legally binding climate change deal, but has publicly voiced concern about the potential competitive impact of a Paris climate agreement and also about the absence of binding measures to curb each country's emissions in the near future.[73] "Everyone is in favour; we just need to have more or less fair regulation. There shouldn't be any pockets where people can cheat the system. People shouldn't agree on something that creates another Kyoto protocol that creates nice polished statements", he told the Financial Times in January 2016.

PS Isn't Dierpaska the guy who MANAFORT talked to about 'making things whole' for the MILLIONS he owed him? Can't research right this sec. I think it is!
