MIAMI (AP) — Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are asking a judge to postpone his criminal trial without setting a new date as he stands accused of illegally hoarding classified documents at his Florida estate.

In a late Monday filing, Trump’s defense attorneys said the case was “extraordinary,” with a large volume of documents and footage to be reviewed as the former president leads the race for the Republican nomination to unseat President Joe Biden. They cited challenges to select jurors and concerns about whether he would get a fair trial if scheduled before the November 2024 election.

God, if it was me and I thought I would be found not guilty Id been at demanding the earliest trial possible.

Imagine if Trump were found not guilty in December, rolling into primary season with that under his belt he would be unstoppable. What is he afraid of?
 
I’m suspicious that Trump is going to take a deal in the end. He’s scared to death of jail, so if he could get a non-prison till after the election, he would jump on it.

Trump is afraid that a court will find him guilty of espionage.

The Justice Department has an unwritten policy of not prosecuting political candidates within 60 days of an election (something along those lines). That gives him another delay. He is hoping to be president by then and he can't be prosecuted while in office.

The President is not the king. The DOJ better get off its fat ass and prosecute criminals like Trump.
