Trump is getting into his usual mantra to try to sell "his" economy - saying that it was the greatest the world has ever seen & all that.
No one cares how it used to be. It would be like Bush talking about the pre-crash economy in 2008 if he had been able to run for a 3rd term. People only care how it is now, and how it's going to be.
And a big part of both of those considerations is how a leader handles a crisis like this. I know how I feel about that w/ Trump. I have a hunch I know how most independents likely feel about it, also.

Keeping the Barr/Durham investigation going is a big reason . Trump has a lot of ammunition there.
The Russia Hoax was the biggest travesty of justice and widespread conspiracy for an attempted coup I've seen in my lifetime.
Most presidents are judged by the way they manage crisis.
Obama had to stave off a second Great Republican Depression.
Jimmy Carter had to deal with the Iran crisis.
JFK had to deal with the Cuban missle crisis.
Poppy Bush had to deal with the collapse of the iron curtain, and establish a stable new international order.
All Trump had to do was babysit the Obama Economic Recovery, and not screw it up. Trump's poor planning, poor leadership, downplaying, lying, and denial of this pandemic is how posterity will remember this failed, one term president.
Those issues only appeal to people who were already going to vote for Trump anyway.
The question is, what is Trump going to campaign on for a general electorate? I do not think KAG is going to cut the mustard
