Trump Is Just 6 Votes Away From Impeachment

It all depends on public opinion and what the polls say.

If a large enough majority of the public digest all this and come to the conclusion that he's finally crossed the line, and that sentiment is consistently reflected in the polls, the GOP will drop him like a gnawed drumstick at a caveman picnic.

Here's where I figure it now:

NO:
Rick Scott
Braun
Grassley
Wicker
Hyde-Smith
Hoeven
Cramer
Blackburn
Johnson
Barrasso

YES:
Romney
Burr
Collins
Lee
Cruz
Murkowski
McSally
Gardner
Rubio
Young
Ernst
Moran
Blunt
Sasse
Portman

MAYBE:
Graham
Shelby
Crapo
Cassidy
Kennedy
Hawley
Tillis
Tim Scott
Alexander
Capito
Enzi

"At some point in 2019 (if not sooner) a Republican Senator may walk into the Oval Office and say to President Trump: "Mr. President, we don't have the votes," at which point the Trump presidency will end in a resignation or a conviction in the Senate.

This scenario actually occurred forty-three years ago this summer when Republican Senator Barry Goldwater walked into the Oval Office and told Republican President Richard Nixon that they didn't have the votes in the Senate to save his presidency.

Following impeachment in the House, a trial takes place in the Senate. Conviction requires two-thirds of the Senate and by my count there are already twelve senators who have shown a willingness to take on the president when they believe he is in the wrong.

If you add that to the forty-eight Democrats in the Senate (who have shown no inclination to work with this President), Donald Trump could be six votes away from conviction in the Senate."

FYI This article is 2 years old. Some of the seats have changed since this was written. I have searched a bit and I am not finding what I am looking for.

I would like to identify potential Senate votes for conviction. Shall we take some wild guesses? Well, we could probably make some educated ones, anyway.

Let's devote this thread to learning about just where the loyalties lie for those 53 Republican Senators, shall we? Party or Country. Who might actually vote to convict, and who can we say no way never would vote to convict no matter what. Let's divide them up, stick em in columns.

I wonder how close we can come to guessing properly?

List of US Senators with links to info on each - wiki

If you are addressing using the "Whistle Blower" fake news story and the phone call between Mr. Trump and the Ukrainian president......you'd better think again. Documentation beats the hell out of propaganda based fake news.

Do you not comprehend the reality that Mr. Trump is holding the TRUMP ACE up his sleeve? What a bunch of dumbasses on the left. If you were actually as smart as assume you are you would realize something regarding the US RULE OF LAW. Mr. Trump was well within his legal right to request help from the Ukrainian president regarding his on going criminal investigation into the 2016 election interference within UKRAINE....that involved many US government representatives......the 2 in question are Hillary Clinton......and Joe Biden. Why is he within his rights to request help in a possible criminal investigation of the 2?

There is a certain legal document singed into law by none other than BLOW JOB BILL CLINTON in 1999.....its called "The MUTUAL LEGAL ASSISSTANCE IN CRIMINAL MATTERS treaty" It gives the US government a broad scope of power and authority in requesting help from the government of Ukraine in any investigation where crimes are suspected to have taken place.

You assholes have been baited for the last time.....its game over. :bigthink: Yeah...unlike a left wing congress...a Senate hearing is much like a court hearing where it takes FACTS in evidence not accusations and fake news stories. There is no way in hell there will be a super majority guilty projected from the senate...with no actual evidence presented. Hell Blow Job skated and he was actually guilty of a documented felony.....lying under oath. Trump has been found guilty of NOTHING...they are attempting to pretend they are impeaching for a show while they phish for fake a crime to prosecute. Good...luck, but if you're depending upon the already debunked fake whistle blower propaganda, you don't have a leg to stand on.

What I enjoyed in the first few minutes of the hearing......Watching Adam Shitless pretend he was reading from the actual transcript when he was reading from a document he had written days ago if not weeks ago....not suspecting Mr. Trump to be transparent and provide the REAL TRANSCRIPT.....Shitless assumed he had the latitude to say what he wanted in his opening statement because he never even considered that Mr. Trump would actually release the real transcript. He was caught red handed lying his ass off....declaring the transcript contained evidence that Mr. Trump asked the Ukrainian present 8 times to help dig up dirt on Joe Biden...….LMAO The language he read from in his own notes makes one suspect that he SHITLESS.....actually drafted the whistle blower complaint and never considered there would be a verbatim transcript read into the record. PRICLESS.

Footnote: I wonder if SHIT FOR BRAINS ever got those naked pictures of Donald Trump from Ukraine he was promised on a phone call?

These are the ones I can't decide on from what I've learned so far:

Pat Roberts KA
Mitch McConnell KY
Rand Paul KY
Steve Daines MT

If you've got familiarity with any of these and you think you can place the name on one of the columns, speak up.

OK, I am making one update. I am going to put Sullivan in the maybe column. He is pro-border wall, but he has butted heads with Trump. He supported Trump as a nominee, but then pulled his support and resigned from GOP leadership when the Access Hollywood video came out.

It requires a total of 20 'Yes' votes to convict President Trump of abusing his office. There are 10 for 'No,' 15 in the 'Yes' column, another 12 in the 'Maybe' column, and another 16 undecided.

I will continue to learn more about each of the 'Undecided,' see if I can place them.

Hello Norma Newman,

Graham will turn on him.

I'm good with that. He strongly opposed candidate Trump.

Wooooo. That's 16 in the YES column....

Only 4 more needed. And there are still a lot of Maybe and Undecided...

I'm gonna move Isakson to the Maybe column simply because he is stepping down for health reasons. He will not have to answer for his decision in future terms.

I am moving Jim Rische into the No column. A news report showed him very supportive of Trump, attacking Biden, rattling off the Republican line about investigating Biden in Ukraine.

I am moving Pat Roberts into the Maybe column. He is also retiring from the Senate, got nothing to lose for voting to convict.

From start to finish, Nixon's crimes were too much and he resigned in about a few short months. Lots of Nixon's staff and administration officials were jailed as it went along. Trump has the same level sycophants. They will coverup and get nailed. Trump's people were hired for loyalty to him, not the nation or constitution. They will pay for that.

Why should Trump give a flying fuck? Have at it scumbag!

I was working my through the list of undecideds and then I got to McConnell.

There's the problem.

If he decides to block this he's got some tricks up his sleeve. And he is quite the trickster.

He's required to bring it to a vote, but there is no time frame stipulated.

He was required to act on the legal nomination Merrick Garland for SCOTUS by President Obama, but no time frame was stipulated. So he simply delayed acting on it for 293 days until Obama was no longer President.

I am going to put Rand Paul in the No column.

He came out with a statement defending the President yesterday.

I'll put Steve Daines in the maybe column. He is in a split State, and showed some reserve in defending the President:

"“Steve believes Democrats sound like a broken record with their two-plus years of impeachment threats,” a spokesperson for Sen. Steve Daines said in an email. “On Ukraine, Steve believes now isn’t the time to speculate and looks forward to hearing the facts.”"

Hello Threedee,

Ukraine should investigate Biden.

Naturally. And Trump is above the law, too, right? It is ludicrous to even suspect him of any wrongdoing. He's always the victim of wrongdoing. Everybody has been trying to get Trump his while life because he's so good and rich and they are all just envious, right?

If there's been any wrongdoing, it's always somebody else. Never Trump.

If you can't accept that then you can't be a Trump fan.
