Trump Guts ‘Unnecessary’ Agencies Serving Homeless, Libraries, and Museums

Unplugging something that draws a spark will trip them. If you plug in something that uses make / break contactors and draws heavy current, like a space heater, every time it cycles it'll trip the AFI.
They are designed to ignore the normal sparks of things being unplugged, plugged in, switches being switched, etc. Admittedly I do not have a huge amount of experience, but they have not been tripping in my house when we do the normal things. They did use to trip before we replaced the wiring in the house... But I believe that was because there were loose wires.

They are supposed to be for having something like a frayed cord that is arcing, but common sense would tell you anyone but a moron wouldn't be plugging in something that has a chewed up cord.
I have seen loose wires before. I know they happen. Often when they happen, they happen in places that are not easily seen.

I've had to deal with AFI's for years now--they came out in code back in the early 90's.
I bought my current house in 2012, and was not required to put arc faults in. I did anyway, because the electrical worried me, but it was not a requirement. Maybe the local codes are different where you are, but usually they follow the national guidelines.

Again, if I am wrong, please tell me. I am not claiming to have a huge amount of experience on this. But, I do have the experience I have.
