Trump declares war on DeSantis

Donald Trump effectively declared war on Republican rival Ron DeSantis with a blistering broadside against the Florida governor, setting the stage for a destructive battle within a party already wounded from a poor showing in the midterm elections.

“Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and the no longer great New York Post, is all in for Governor Ron DeSanctimonious," he wrote in a 500-word email to supporters.

The New York Post, which backed Mr Trump for re-election in 2020, eviscerated him following the lacklustre performance of candidates he endorsed in Tuesday’s elections

Meanwhile, the once staunchly pro-Trump network Fox News carried Mr DeSantis’s victory speech live and published an op-ed on Wednesday titled "Ron DeSantis is the new Republican Party leader".

Mr Trump was reported to have "fumed" at his opponent’s favourable coverage.

Many Republicans have begun openly expressing the opinion that Mr DeSantis would make for a stronger general election candidate than Mr Trump in 2024.

Mr Trump is poised to announce his own bid for the White House next week, but he may enter that contest in a more vulnerable position than before, given Mr DeSantis’s growing muscle.

The open warring between its two most popular leaders will likely cause deep dismay in the GOP, which will see it as an unwelcome distraction for voters.

Does nobody love Trump any more? Except himself, of course. :(

If Trump had his wits about him, and was really concerned about the health of the country, he would graciously step out of the limelight and let the already defacto party leader get down to business.

Trump will run, but he won't get the nomination. DeSantis will get that, and he will be elected President.

All Trump can do at this point is be a horrible distraction. I voted for him twice, but his childish antics and recent attacks on DeSantis, who's done a ridiculously spectacular job leading Florida, have soured him for me. He no longer holds any appeal for me as a political force, and I believe the majority of conservatives feel exactly the same way I do....

Trump is showing his exhaustion....his instincts are failing him now.

He has absorbed so many punches.

This is a bad strategy for Trump.

Ummm...you predicted a strong red showing for this election...right?

Anyone with a brain should feel that way. But anyone with a brain would already be of that mind for the last 6 years.

I'm getting my popcorn ready. Thank god no SCOTUS nominations appear on the horizon soon

I have long wondered how the GOP was gonna rid themselves of his presence. Now it gets obvious - he is gonna burn bridges

He already lost chances of winning Florida. He barely won down their against Dementia Joe - and he just pissed off the followers of a very popular governor

what a moron

This is going to stir-up some excitement among the GOP.

I suspect they’re excited that Trump is finished and can now move on.
Most of us are actually but I wonder what will the after effects be for the leftists with severe cases of TDS .

People are saying it's time to move on - they never liked Trump, they just voted for his policies, etc.

But what if he won't GO? Don't think you can shame him into it! He doesn't give a damn for the GOP or even the country, and he still has tens of millions of dupes.

What then?
