There is no doubt Trump's supporters believed his lies about voter fraud and would not have met at the Capitol on Jan 6 without his lies. Urging Pence to not accept the electoral results is part of this process. Urging states to change the voter certification is part of this process. It doesn't have to be proven illegal to recognize how it was the worst action ever taken by a president and was an attempt to prevent the transfer of power to the new president.
