My friend a die hard fisherman and conservative lives in Seattle, he is pissed by the Feds and their backing off regulations that protect rivers and streams. He is ready to vote for Democrats because of this issue! I wonder what will be your trigger!

Not really identical certainly as far as industry was concerned. Stalin nationalised everything and collectivized agriculture.

Living in those societies for the ordinary citizen wouldn't be much different though, their methods of repression and propaganda were very similar.
