Most astronauts were and still are from the military. Health wise, they are the fittest in the military. During Vietnam, trump claimed to be too unhealthy to serve. It is a good bit of distance between being too unhealthy to serve, and being one of the healthiest. Even those that are not in the military need to be in top military shape.
Then there is education. They usually have several math intensive graduate degrees. trump has claimed to have an MBA, but he simply does not have one. he does have an undergraduate degree, but no honors with that, so graduated in the bottom half of his class. he applied to law schools, but was rejected by all of them.
Finally, there is the ability to listen and follow instruction. Even with all this education, and intelligence, astronauts are nowhere near as smart as the entire NASA team behind them. Their main task is to follow the instructions of that NASA team. trump has never shown even the basic ability to listen to people more knowledgable than him.
What happened: trump saw some national heroes rightly getting credit for doing something great, and narcissistically needed to demand credit for himself.
