Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime

On Christmas Day, President Donald Trump took part in a long-running practice of presidents who called troops stationed around the country and the world.

But he broke from a recent tradition of actually visiting troops and wounded warriors. He did so in 2017, when he visited wounded troops at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Dec. 21 (and invited Coast Guard service members to play golf at his course in West Palm Beach, Florida).

By staying home on Tuesday, Trump became the first president since 2002 who didn't visit military personnel around Christmastime.

Trump has a short attention span and doesn't do comittment.

The democrats shut down the government to keep the POTUS from visiting troops at Christmas. How shameful of them, but hey, at least they won't need as many secret service agents working without pay over Xmas as a result of the Obama pay caps.

Trump whined to the troops over teleconferencing that he had to stay in the WH and away from his family because duty compelled him to stay behind to deal with the shut down and the lack of border wall funding. Wonder if the troops stuck in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria for Christmas were missing their families?

They would still be there whether the government was funded or not.

Trump fulfills his duty and you still whine.

when did you serve and what was your deployment

Exactly, but Cadet Bone Spurs sacrifice is greater than theirs.

He orders troops home, democrats bitch. He keeps troops overseas, democrats bitch. If Trump cured cancer, democrats would bitch and declare him a racist for not curing sickle cell anemia instead. Being forward deployed is the nature of service. It is not some shocking surprise. Unless they had a KIA triggering a comm blackout to allow the family to be officially notified before they saw it on social media or heard it through the rumor mill, the service members can communicate with home more readily than ever before in the history of warfare Christmas Day or otherwise.

They're doing their duty just like Trump and kudzu still whines.

It is all a bit ridiculous to me. Yesterday we were talking about a now-dead great uncle who lived through the depression and the Battle of the Bulge who was a proper hoarder/prepper having seen society being destroyed twice first hand. His unit in WWII survived over a week on nothing but wine they found in a cellar and it was so fucking cold they were not allowed to touch anything metal with their flesh because it would rip the skin right off their body. Getting a bayonet to the back was the only thing that got him home as his deployment was open ended. Not getting a telephone call from or appearance by FDR was the least of their worries. Anyway, I had said something about I always hated staying at his house because his beds were hard as bricks. My oldest brother said that was because he packed the spaces underneath with as much canned food as he could possibly fit under them. Somehow, I never knew that was why, I just assumed it was because he had crappy mattresses.
