Trump approval on economy down 15 points since March: Poll

President Trump’s approval on the economy is down 15 points since March, according to a CBS News/YouGov survey released Monday.

The poll, conducted late last week, shows 36 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, down from 51 percent in a poll released in early March.

The slump in Trump’s economic approval is driven by a shift among independent voters.

Today, more than three-quarters of independents — 76 percent — disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, while 24 percent approve.

The shift in his economic approval rating among independent voters mirrors the shift in his overall numbers.

Trump’s general job approval rating among independents is 44 points underwater currently — with 72 percent disapproving and 28 percent approving. In the March poll, his job approval rating among independents was just 6 points underwater, with 53 percent disapproving and 47 percent approving.

trump's in serious trouble. His tariffs have cause prices to skyrocket - his FBI director's flying his girlfriend around on his private jet The House is about to turn blue - might be time to hit that Hitler bunker with Melania, donny!

It’s remarkable to me how it was possible for him to have any support to begin with.
Trump has always won with less than 50% of the vote.

There were a few hundred thousand people in seven swing states who decided to ignore the response to the pandemic and the J6 insurrection, and they chose to only remember that Trump inherited and babysat a stable Obama economy from 2017 to 2018.

Libtards are stupid.

Many people are not very good at "delayed gratification"; they wish to see "instant gratification" instead. Those people expected Trump to wave a magic wand and instantly undo all of the Auto Pen's economic destruction (and instantly see lower prices at stores and gas stations).

Meanwhile, a lot of good things HAVE been happening at a foundational level that will be much more noticeable to the "normies" on the surface during 2026, just in time for the midterms. One such thing will be a "tariff dividend"... Another such thing will be higher tax returns. By that time, overall grocery prices should come down slightly and gas prices should be down even more than they already are.

Next year, "normies" will start feeling a whole lot better about the economy and "prices". It just takes some time.

Trump implied he had such a magic wand.

Guess what, you MAGAmoronic misfits?

You have earned the disaster headed for the GOP next year. There is no magic wand for you.

If y'all weren't trying to tell people to ignore their lying eyes and just trust you with Braindead's Dementia and had even Kamala running against him from the beginning I think you would have won, if you had a competitive primary program with a clear winner.

I think they got support because nobody trusted the Democrats after watching him figuratively dripping brain fluid from his nose on live TV and having them tell everyone he was "running circles around" staff and the leftist media telling us he was the "best version of Joe ever"...

It amazes me that he's so deluded that he believes his lies about the economy including how Thanksgiving is 25% cheaper actually flies with Middle America.

It's remarkable how fast and how far Trump's fleeting support among registered independents has cratered.
Independents are independents because they don't trust either party. In that regard, they often vote for the challenger in order to keep the established parties off-guard.

The Republicans, like the Democrats, only constitute about 30% of the voting public. The other 40% are independents. This is just from the 60% who actually vote so the percentage of Democrats and Republicans is actually closer to about 20% each of voter eligible Americans.

That’s above my pay grade, I don’t make those decisions.

I did see where Trump took a nap during a meeting at the oval office this week, and then posted about how he has not 1 inch loss of stamina.

My point is, I don't think it was so much Trump support as it was Democrat Distrust. Your party worked hard to make nobody believe a danged thing they had to say. When your party ran on "ignore that thing over there it is a 'Deep Fake'" instead of holding a competitive primary it lost credibility in the eyes of the Independents. They weren't "supporting" Trump, they were deeply disillusioned with Democrats.

If you are right he was right on top of things, the competitive primary would have shown us that. But hiding Joe in a basement, not having any debates, and ensuring folks like JFK Jr were dismissed instead of heard simply showed people that nobody could trust what you were serving up.

I am not arguing with that. Clinton, Harris, Biden in dementia, and Trump have been the worst candidates since the Civil War.

MAGAS yelled and screamed when Obama ran the debt up about 7 Trillion in 8 years but didn't say a word when Trump ran it up almost as much in only 4 years , and now I read he has already ran it up 3 Trillion in less then a year and the MAGAS still aren't saying a word . Obama 7 trillion in 8 years Trump almost 10 Trillion in less then 5 years , Just how much does Trump have to run it up before the MAGAS start saying something?
If Trump keeps running it up at the rate he is now ( 1 Trillion every 100 days ) he will add another 11 Trillion MORE on top of the 3 trillion he has already put on it this year before he gets out of office.
Again I thought Trump said he was going to cut the debt not run it up and up and up.
Lets see 7 trillion in his last term 3 already in this term and if he keeps going the way he is now and adds another 11 Trillion before he gets out that will be a total of 21 Trillion in his 8 years in office.
So why aren't the MAGAS screaming about it like they did when Obama ran it up 7 trillion in 8 years?
a possible 21 Trillion in 8 years not a word vs 7 trillion in 8 years by Obama and all kinds of screaming about it then.
I have to ask MAGAS why aren't you people saying a word about how much Trump is running the debt up?

The Democratic Party had been eating itself ever since Obama left. Mostly, IMO, due to the Clintons. Especially Hillary's buyout of the DNC. The last worst thing they did was allowing Joe to break his one-term promise and run without a primary.

The problem is cutting taxes but not cutting expenses. It's smart to trim the fat but stupid to cut meat and bone....which is what's happening.
