Typical smooth-brains can only assess 'in the moment of', as if nothing led up to the catastrophe.

But here, I'll help add a little water to this empty barrel:

1) MAKE SURE FIRE HYDRANTS HAVE WATER!

2) MAKE SURE RESERVOIRS ARE FILLED WITH WATER!

3) PROPERLY CLEAR BRUSH AND DRY / DEAD WOOD!

4) MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CUT FUNDING TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!

5) MAKE SURE YOU DON'T FIRE FIREFIGHTERS DUE TO VACCINE MANDATES!

That would, at least for starters, have reduced the aggregate destruction of this unmitigated disaster.

You do not hate California's DEI Democrat government enough:


- Not only does California again lead the nation in homelessness despite having spent approximately $24 billion on addressing homelessness since Gavin Newsom took office.

- CA has the highest poverty rate (13.2%) of any state despite being the 4th largest economy in the world

- This persists, despite the state having an annual budget of ~$297 billion- the largest state budget in the US

- Poverty is still growing, despite the highest spending on public welfare programs in the US (< $100 billion annually)

- All of this continues and gets worse despite a progressive income tax system of up to 13.3% and a state sales tax rate of 7.25%- both the highest rates in the nation

- Despite all those taxes, CA ranks 48th for road conditions, with 44% of roads rated in poor condition

- In spite all those taxes, CA education ranks below average in national assessments for math and reading proficiency

- Unaffected by all those taxes, California's violent crime rate has risen by ~16% since 2019, while most of the nation has seen rates declining

- Despite all that tax money, upgrades to state grid infrastructure have been slow to scale and have not hit stated annual targets

DEI Democrat's failures are far beyond the fires.
 
FUN FACT:

In 2014, California voters passed Prop 1 which directed billions of dollars for infrastructure to build water storage and reservoirs.

Over 10 years later, not a single reservoir has been completed.

Wait until they have to rebuild to current building codes. Many of the structures that burned had been there for 50 to 100 years. They'd withstood everything up to now. Yet, to rebuild, the new building will have to meet all current code requirements, and that's going to be costly on its own.
