Easy. It provides Republican voters with a feel good message that they want to hear, and more importantly it builds up DeSantis as the managed (by the RNC) "acceptable" (to the RNC) alternative to President Trump in 2024. -- It is meant to target the MAGA wing of the Republican Party and to manipulate them into supporting a DeSantis 2024 run rather than a Trump 2024 run (IOW, "split the MAGA vote" so either the preferred RNC candidate wins or the "acceptable" RNC candidate wins).

I don’t understand Floridians voting for a governor who wishes to be President. His focus will be on his presidential campaign and not Florida.

Its why my folks stop voting for Bob Dole, he lost interest in Kansas and focused on his campaigns for President.

VERY true. You nailed it! ..... which is why the RNC is now managing him and promoting him as the "electable" (meaning "acceptable to the RNC") candidate. The RNC knows as much as you and I do that the MAGA wing of the Republican Party does not want the likes of Nikki Haley (club preferred) to be President, so that's where they come in with their "acceptable" candidate, one who they can manage/control, one who can be a "splitter candidate" to split MAGA votes away from Trump. That's what Ted Cruz was in 2016, and what DeSantis will be in 2024. I've seen this same old song and dance play out one too many times... How people STILL get fooled by this stuff is beyond me...

Floridians don't. Just the 1/3 that are Republicans (and a few whackjobs) want a Trumper for President. His favorability is in the 40s but, due to Republicans turning Florida into a One-Party State*, DeSantis is a shoo-in for reelection.
