Today's the Big Day!

How many times have we said it. These people are unable to comprehend that santorum and his ilk will always work against their best interests. Yet they get all starry-eyed over propaganda like "taking our country back", "real Americans", "bring God back into the country", etc. You have to wonder if history and civics are being taught anymore in conservative states.
Of course they do. Go live in rural Iowa or Alabama or Mercer county Ohio and you'll have a better perspective. They are neither bad or stupid people. A lot of the motivating factor for these conservatives is fear and resistance to change much of which is driven by urban areas. Sometimes they are right too. Change for change sake is not always a good thing. Other times, it is inevitable and right but when it impacts a traditional life style it is natural for people to resist that change. Particularly rural people who have to be much more self reliant then urban people and are thus naturally more conservative and suspect of radical changes.

Santorum is also notoriously anti-science. He provided bad advice and access to legal council to the Dover, PA board of education in the now famous Intelligent Design court case which set back the citizens of Dover back a million dollars when they lost.

So? They passed the stupid thing, they should face the consequences of their actions. Why would they listen to him, but ignore others? I'll tell you why, they wanted to. I don't care if he gives bad legal advice, lawyers lose all the time based on their positions not being seen quite the same by the courts. And I don't care if Dover had to pay for their passing some silly law that got overturned. Governments do that all the time.

Ron Paul has mainstreamed State's Rights within the Republican Party. The most dangerous ideology to any citizen who is not a heteronormative, white male in this country's history.

It's okay to ban birth control if a state does it. They somehow have set up an ideology that claims to be against government power, while setting up 50 different totalitarian states who can deprive women and people of color of all rights.

It's insane and doesn't even make sense. I love how they are now claiming that Ron Paul can't be racist because he's against the drug war. WRONG. Ron Paul is against the federal government prosecuting drug crimes. He would have no problem with individual states executing convicted drug users. Worse, about 90% of the blacks in jail today for drug charges were convicted by the STATES.

They are insane and stupid, and liberals who give any quarter to them have no knowledge.

They're pulling off their masks and showing us all who they are. State rights threaten the Big Govt socialist agenda. Rave on, lunatic.

I agree with you on this. If there is gonna be change then we want it to occur naturally without govt interference. That's what it's all about. We run the govt. Govt doesn't run us. We don't like the left shoving their culture down our throats.

Do you think a state has the right to ban contraception? A simple yes or no will do.

Yes, I do. Why do you think this nation was founded as "The United States of America"?

Those of you on the left have this misconception that whatever the Fed says then the states have to abide by it. Where in the wide wide world of sports did you ever come up with a crazy idea like that?

I know what matters most about a politician/Presidental candidate differs from each person and differs by area of the country but as one who focuses more on economics it seems pretty amazing that with what is going on financially not only in this country but globally the discussion is about birth control.

It only becomes an issue when the left's power is threatened like it is now. 2010 was a wakeup call for the left and this is going to be nasty as you can tell by the anger from the left in this thread.

I love the smell of fried lefty brains in the morning after an evangelical conservative scores a big upset and makes them all nervous.

.............."God Damn it, we won't be able to kill our babies any longer if Santorum gets in"........
Dude.....have you ever been to Iowa?

You were looking for an excuse. Any woman who isn't angry about a man running on forced childbirth is a frigging idiot.

And Damo is a great example of why the Libertarian movement is known as a "sausage fest", why it attracts very few women, and why women can never depend on so-called libertarians to stand for them. Because liberty to a Libertarian means liberty for men.

White, heteronormative men btw.
That and incompetent government. Scratch a Libertarian and you'll find an anarchist.

Dude.....have you ever been to Iowa?

I've lived in Iowa and been all over it. I grew up in Minneapolis and had family in Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri. I'm a midwesterner who has slept in corn fields and eaten catfish right off the stick over an open fire.

I'm sure the left would love it if Republicans adopted "ban birth control" as part of their platform....

I'm literally laughing my arse off this morning. I don't really think Obama deserves re-election, but he's going to get it.

No one on the left is afraid of Santorum; it's a lefy dream that he gets the nod (he won't). What happened last night was that Mitt Romney won the GOP nomination. And the base can't stand that guy.
I wouldn't say that just yet. If Romney sweeps NH, SC and FL he'll have a very commanding lead, if not an insurmountable one, and if he wins super Tuesday he'll have the nomination locked up.

Go ahead and make that an issue and see what happens. I don't think people are going to worry about something that isn't going to happen and is only designed to scare people out of supporting a candidate. We have big problems. Banning birth control isn't one of them. Good luck.

He wasn't. What does that have to do w/ the left shaking in their boots about him?

I don't know about "shaking in their boots" as the other poster put it but you can definitely see what I think is over-reaction on the part of some folks when a social conservative wins or comes close to winning an election. That's what you are seeing with Santorum just like you saw with Huckabee 4 years ago. I watched some of the morning shows today before leaving work just to see some of the leftist pundits look surprised and talk with disgust about Santorum being so close to winning. I don't know what they expect. Iowa is going to be more [socially] conservative than say, New York...or even New Hampshire, thus they tend to support the Huckabees and Santorums pretty well. Also, if you look at the break down of last night's vote, Mott hit the nail on the head yesterday with his urban/rural divide statement. While Romney and Paul supporters came largely from urban areas, Santorum dominated more in rural areas. If a hick like me can figure it out why do the "experts" have to act so surprised when something like last night happens?

I agree with you on that statement. Santorum is not going to be the nominee, but he is now a national figure after this. He will get a lot more attention from the media in the debates now. He better not say "how things are supposed to be" or he'll be out.
I don't think Santorum will win the nomination but the man is a skilled and knowledgable politician. Sure he imploded during his last Senate campaign but it looks like he learned from that. Santorum speaks very well on blue collar issues. Much better than you're typical Republican candidate and he has far more credibility on blue collar issues then a patrician like Romney does. That was a big part of his success in PA.
