Today's the Big Day!

Paul has good positions on some issues, but as far as the whole package is concerned, it is very fortunate that he has reached his high water mark. What is unfortunate is that his high water mark is as high as it is.
I personally like Ron Paul and share some of his values but my biggest fear is that someone like him will be elected President cause if you think Dubya was incompetent (and he was) you aint seen nothing yet.

Poor people can get IDs as well. Here in NM a state issued ID costs 5 dollars for 5 years and 8 dollars for 10 years. California charges 23 bucks, BUT if you are poor it costs 7. Here's a site for all 50 states. www.thepiratescove.us/2008/04/28/what-does-a-state-id-cost/

So NOW what's the problem?
Again, this beggars the question. Why are Repelicans demanding multiple forms of identification? I Identified myself when I registered to vote with my name, address, the last 4 digits of my SS# (alternatively I could have used my drivers license #) and my signature. When I vote I have to sign in at my precinct and my signature is compared to the signature that is on record. That's pretty much how it works in most States and precincts. Why should I have to show an additional and redundant form of identification? It's a waste of time, resources and it's being used to disenfranchise people who have all ready identified themselves. Now if you want to get rid of the other forms of Identification and legislate that as an alternative we can use State issued photo ID's instead, ok...I have no problem with that but who are Repelicans bullshitting by trying to make this an additional and redundant form of ID? It's the same as the national voting holiday which Repelicans have always opposed. Repelicans want to repress voter turn out cause it's to their advantage.

I wonder how many women in Iowa voted for the guy who came out against birth control and is on record stating that he would like to overturn Griswald and allow states to BAN birth control with no interference from the Supreme Court?

These women need professional help, fast.

Truly the most crawling, pathetic, mewling, cretins to ever walk God's green earth. This is assuming they ever get off their knees and actually walk upright.

wanna know a secret?.....liberal women will vote for liberal candidates and conservative women will vote for conservative candidates.....likely while simultaneously laughing at liberal women for saying such stupid things......

According to the entrance poll, Santorum wins if this is a closed caucus. He won among Republicans. That's hilarious.

How do you make sure a person who walks into the voting booth is eligible?
Simple. They have to sign in and their signature will be compared to their signature on record. It's pretty damned hard, if not impossible, to forge signatures in mass. Though you could make an argument that this would disinfranchise the illiterate.

obviously not enough......you could still bring busloads of folks around to register their signatures in twenty different precincts.......location, location, location........you need a database that flags things like 2000 people registering from the same address.........or someone registering for an address that doesn't exist in the precinct......

Do you believe people should be forced to vote? (I'm not suggesting that is what you said I am just asking your opinion on the issue) While definitely a small minority there are people who offer their own form of protest by not voting.
I don't think they should be forced to but I think that it should be taught to our youths as a civic responsibility and that their should be tremendous peer pressure for citizens to exercise their civic duty to vote and that it should be made as convienant as possible for citizens to vote. Voting should either be on a weekend or if a weekday we should have a national voting holiday so as to increase voter turn out. You'd have a hard time convincing me that increasing voter turn out is a bad thing.

Nine states already have same day voter registration. It's not that difficult to do it.

Bullshit! WHen I was little we would eat beans, and nothing else 4 to 5 days a week for months at a time. When my parents would buy meat it would be for my brother and I only. 7 dollars for a 4 year ID translates into 14.5 cents a month for 48 months. In New Mexico it would be even less. The problem is even if ID's were free, and lots of states have offered to make them free, Democrats would STILL oppose them. YOu have to be a citizen of the US to vote. The only way to prove you are who you are is to present an ID. Fuck sake, you have to have an ID to buy cigarettes in most states now. I am not certain, but I am pretty sure that smoking is more prevelent among the poor than than the middle class and Rich. You have to have an ID to use most welfare programs, you need an ID to register your children for school. Requiring an ID to vote is a minimal restriction (Sorry STY) on your right to vote.
I disagree with you. If State Issue photo ID's were free and were an acceptable alternative form of ID and not additional requirement or the only acceptable form of ID I think most Dems would support it. Dung is absolutely correct about this issue. It's a solution in search of a problem.

I love elections. I love the theater of it. It's one of the only times one can talk about politics in those terms. It's not about what is true, it's how many proles you can get to vote for you. Very machiavellian in a lot of respects. Perception is reality. You dont' need to run faster than the bear, only faster than your friends.

All that matters, are the dumblings, and which way they will be manipulated.

And then, if the ultimate happens, and obama loses, OMMMMMMG it will be the fucking funniest thing ever. retard optimist crybabies threatening to move to canada like they do every 4 years. Moronic 19 year olds will make signs apologizing to the world. Europeans will tear their hair out when america tells them to fuck off like we usually do.

God I love election years.
That was my experiece of electioneering when I was active in politics. It's cynical as hell and there's lots of manipulations, many cynical or decietful, but that is the ugly reality of politics.

I think now, democrats should donate to Santorum's campaign. What last night showed, at least in Iowa, is that 75% of the voter DIDN'T want Romney. So the object, if you want Obama re-elected, is to help a repub candidate that independents and moderate Dems will NEVER vote for. That guy is Rick Santorum. Only in an Obama wet dream does he face Santorum in a General Election. As Bachman and Perry get out there fundamentalist voters have to go somewhere, Santorum would be the biggest beneficiary of those.

I don't know about your State......but that's done in our State. Which makes me suspect that it's done in most States. You're in the area of conspiracy theory and not reality.

LOL I have a friend who does that. He is a died in the wool Liberal and has been a political operative for several Democratic candidates. He's registered as a Republican so he can vote in Republican primaries and he votes for the most asinine Republican candidate. Not only do I think that is unethical I think it's pointless. Outside of Presidential elections and maybe Senators most election districts have been so gerrymandered that the real election is in the primary's. That sucks.

After watching Santorum's speech, I've found that I sorta like the guy. That's not to say I'd ever vote for him - I certainly do not agree with his radical right-wing stance on social issues - but, I do have respect for what he accomplished. He spent only $30k and was floating in the single digits just last month. So losing to Romney by only 8 votes is pretty fucking impressive!

Santorum of 2012 is the Huckabee of 2008....that's why I like him best of all the repub candidates. :)
