Ryan Walters showed this video in the State Board of Education Meeting today. Notice that this video is not targeting educators but is targeting the NEA and by extension the OEA.

There is no wonder that union membership in Oklahoma is less than 50%. These ladies sound like tea-totaled nuts. And the values they are promoting do not align with values of the vast majority of people here. Like him or not … and I don’t … this was a smart political move by Ryan who will be trying to get his agenda implemented this summer.

 
That school boards were converted to WOKE as everyone involved misrepresented what they were doing to all who were not inside of the cult is one of the more damning betrayals.

There is not a single teacher at the public school at which I teach who is a member of NEA/OEA teacher’s union. There is an alternative state organization of which many of us are members though.

One of the best things about my retirement was never having to pay another cent to NEA/OEA... there really wasn't an alternative for us...

I promise you that if I had to join the “NEA/OEA Union” in order to be a public school teacher I would not be a public school teacher.

This is why I am somewhat torn. Oklahoma is a right to work state and I’m ok with that I suppose, but at the same time I do not discount the good that unions have done…especially in the more distant past. But when they use my union dues to support the normalization of the abnormal and the moralization of the immoral I should have the ability to withdraw my support from them without endangering my job.

They didn't "force" us to join but clearly we "had " to...CEA as well.... if I were teaching today I would certainly find another option... for the very reasons you mentioned... back in the good old days the only thing I saw the unions using our money for was their conventions...and nice offices/perks... I never needed them personally but the few teachers that could have used the support really weren't afforded what they deserved... And there were never any really good new contracts... as much as I miss teaching in many ways I'm very glad to be retired... I'm pretty sure I would not be able to be nearly as "patient" as I was...;)

Technically I think there was AFT but none of us were crazy enough to do that... I guess that was a good call... and that would have been frowned upon as well I'm sure...

I can tell I’m not nearly as patient. I work on it daily. But I still love seeing the lights come on above their heads when they “get it.” And I still firmly believe the way out of poverty starts with school. Not just getting an education but school. Get up, show up and do a job. Until the far left get what they want “this is the way” and school teaches kids that.

But I also think that if I were a younger man just beginning my career I’d probably opt to take less money and teach in a private school.

You're absolutely right and it's so simple I don't know why the far left doesn't get it... or should I say refuse to get it... Public Schools need teachers ..and coaches...just like you... your particular school is so lucky to have you and I'm sure they know that and I hope they let you know as often as possible... that helps and as I'm sure you know you can ignore most of the administration and bureaucratic garbage...and just do what you need to do that's best for the kids...( I used to love when the feds came to do evaluations in our classrooms... they had absolutely not a clue what was going on... and we reminded them that they didn't...)
 
On a side note our high school academic team was invited to the state house to be formally recognized on the floor of Congress for their accomplishments at the national level a few weeks ago. Hopefully these same congressmen can compromise on a plan for educational funding that isn’t based on vilifying every teacher in the state as a far left lunatic.

Congratulations !!! And so awesome when the kids and teachers do great things and are properly recognized for them... (sometime I'll share the a very recent story about my high school and the exciting things happening there.;))
 
People that always talk about being forced to join Unions cracks anyone up, they always had a choice, don’t take the job, if it is a requirement for employment, don’t take the position, it’s that easy. Stop crying after the fact

And without Unions educators would be at the mercy of politicians and whatever the latest political crusade is
