How did he inspire you, specifically?
I appreciated his heartfelt words for Michelle and his family, and the occasional honest reflection.
Having said that... It was the longest farewell speech by an outgoing president, making it all the more evident that he felt compelled to not only defend his legacy but to do several other things... Obama has always crafted his speeches in such a way so as to give the listener the impression that he's forever aspiring to the highest ideals of humanity, even when those ideals are
completely opposite his own actions or that of his party's. He's a very skilled manipulator who purposely infuses revisionist history in his speeches, dishonest portrayals of reality, attaching false positions or motives to his political opponents, and usually positioning himself as a victim of circumstances beyond his control that have prevented him from being more effective as president. All this is done in order to persuade the listener not to blame
him for anything bad that happened while he was president, but to blame anyone or anything else. And of course, he makes sure to throw some red-meat to his base... I think the most applauded line of the night had to do with defending Muslims, LOL! Always the pet religion of Liberals
