Based on everything I've seen, this is a mischaracterization. So many of those quotes people are citing are taken out of context.
And it doesn't even matter. Even if he was all of those things - he didn't deserve to die. He was just expressing his opinions, and getting dialogue going.
The rush by some on the left to make it sound like this was somehow justified is absolutely repugnant. Kirk was a husband & father. And based on everything I've seen, he was a good man.
