"Three possible Speakers-in-waiting to watch if McCarthy falls"

Yep, too many bad memories of McCarthy being so stubborn, so defiant, such an obstructionist and troublemaker for all these years.

I don't think any Republican speaker is going to be very popular and it will be a tough job for anyone because of the divisions between just the Republicans.

The in-party fighting hasn't even really begun yet. But it is about to explode any time now.

I suppose he is being treated the way he deserves. He was a bad boy before Trump ever came down the escalator, and only became worse since he did!
He was a golden boy until he got on t.v. and said the quiet part out loud, after Issa had been lying about Benghazi for years.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” McCarthy said on Fox News. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened had we not fought.”
House Republicans have sharply repudiated McCarthy’s comments that suggested the House select committee investigating Benghazi had succeeded by tarnishing Clinton, saying it undermined their party’s messaging on a key issue and raised questions about his ability to be the GOP’s top communicator.

I don't think any Democrat will trust him.

They won't trust him but do they have better options? What I like about McCarthy is his unlikableness. The guy has a thoroughly unpleasant demeanor, unlike Scalise for example. I don't see the personality McCarthy brings to the Party being any help to Republicans in 2024.

Given that Republicans have no real policy agenda, there's nothing lacking by having no functioning House right now. For decades, Republicans have not had a Speaker that can seem to herd the cats. They do more damage than good every step of the way.

They illegally defunded the risk corrider program from the ACA and not only put 12 insurance companies out of business, the Supreme Court ordered the govt. to pay millions to the insurers who were promised said funding. They did this in an attempt to take health insurance away from millions of people.

Boehner and then Ryan refused to bring the bi partisan Senate immigration bill to a vote, because they both knew it would pass. They couldn't lose the wedge issue of immigration.

They wasted countless millions on the Benghazi hearings, knowing that their refusal to approve spending on security was a big part of the problem.

House Republicans have historically done damage to the nation. We should be happy that there is no House for now. Comedy relief, as it were.

what the House accomplished yesterday was better for America than every thing the House did since 2018.....

If you think that making a fool of themselves, and demonstrating an inability to govern is an accomplishment, then go for it. I doubt the majority of Americans think that.

For maximum hilarity I would actually want a dem speaker come out of this.

That would be so much fun! RED TSUNAMI! It won’t happen, best we can hope for is Democrats extract some promises and help them get a moderate.

Well, they did avoid swearing in George Santos. We can give them one day's credit for that. Comparing them in any way to Democrats, however, only makes their dysfunction look worse.
