Lexington, KY – July 13, 2025 – Authorities have confirmed that at least three individuals, including the suspected gunman, are dead and multiple others injured following a violent series of events that culminated in a shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Lexington Police Department, in coordination with the Kentucky State Police (KSP), released further details Sunday afternoon regarding the ongoing investigation.

The incident began earlier in the day when a Kentucky State Trooper was shot by the suspect during an initial encounter around 11:36 a.m. in Fayette County.

The trooper sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Following the initial shooting, the suspect fled and later arrived at Richmond Road Baptist Church. There, additional gunfire was reported, resulting in multiple civilian injuries.

Emergency Medical Services responded swiftly and provided on-site care to the victims before transporting them to local hospitals.

A suspect is dead after allegedly shooting and killing two women at a Kentucky church and injuring a state trooper, officials said.

Officials said they believe that the suspect had a connection to individuals at the church. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

A official briefed on the investigation told ABC News that the suspect had a history of mental health, drug and anger issues. He had had a domestic situation with an ex-girlfriend who then filed protection orders against him, the official said.

Coroner Gary Ginn said the majority of the people at the church were related biologically or "have been friends for many years."
