This is why I am offended by people who deliberately choose ignorance, because I'm here working my ass off to generate brain power, and they are telling themselves its okay to eat the yellow snow. It's a big conspiracy, that everyone was in on.
No one liked the guy and this was just a way to get rid of him.
He probably belonged to a militia and he was a threat.

They are trained to respond to an obvious threat.

Unless they had X-ray vision, they could not possibly have been able to tell that it was a water nozzle.

It is almost felony stupid to take a shooting stance with cops armed to the teeth surrounding you even if you have a weapon and believe that they are not within their rights to arrest you. It is truly felony stupid to take the same stance when you only have something that looks like a gun from a distance.

I wouldn't suggest ever taking that stance with cops unless you plan on shooting them with an actual weapon. I would then tell you, if you planned on shooting cops, that the likely result is going to be suicide by cop and to think twice or three times before taking such an action even if you believe that they are not "right" in what they are doing.

The person who called 911 said "the man appeared to have a "tiny six-shooter.""

Now a tiny six-shooter will kill someone dead as hell. And very little of the gun would be sticking out of a two handed grip. Probably just the barrel. Which, as it happens, looks very much like the end of a water nozzle. Unless you can see the entire nozzle, it would be tough to tell them apart.

And since the man was holding it in a two handed shooting stance, he presented an apparent threat to their lives.

no shit everyone has a right to self defense. Cops can pull their weapons though and point them at you with far less justification. Again, this is obvious to everybody that isn't retarded.
 
STY, I agree that cops receive training to do their job.

But what you are expecting of them is to be super-human, tv-cops. That is just bullshit. These are just regular guys doing a dangerous job. If you think they just wanted to shoot this poor schmuck, you are obviously stoned.

It was a horrible mistake. But the mistake was made by the dumbass drunk, not the cops.
