No, the gun could be kept in a gun safe, only able to be accessed by the teacher. If the teacher is trained on how to use the weapon, then it would have been an asset. That said, no teacher (or anyone for that matter) should be carrying a gun/storing a gun around kids if that adult has no clue how to use the weapon.
