Nothing in politics ever happens by accident. Union membership is taking a beating as of late and the leaders of the unions can't afford to lose that money. Always follow the money. Conversely as the unions are a money laundering group for the democrat party, it stands to reason that they need union membership larger than it is today. They also need boots on the ground to man phone banks and drive "the underprivileged" to "vote".

Unions are outdated and ineffective. The point was that this is not about "protecting workers" but about finding paid members for the AFL/CIOs declining membership.
They have to keep the money laundering scheme going for the democrat party.
